YouTube has announced the expansion of its multi-language audio feature, making it available to millions of creators worldwide.
Multi-Language Audio Expansion
Ritz Campbell, Product Manager at YouTube, said that when a creator in the U.S. uploads a video, fans in countries such as Korea, Brazil, and India can now watch it in their native language almost instantly.
On average, creators who added multi-language audio tracks saw over 25% of their total watch time come from non-primary language views, Campbell added.
Pilot Program and Impact
The feature began two years ago in a pilot program that allowed a small number of creators to add dubs in multiple languages. Since then, YouTube has seen significant results.
- On Jamie Oliver’s channel, using multi-language audio led to a 3x increase in views.
- MrBeast and Mark Rober also use the feature to reach wider audiences. Mark Rober uploads dubs in more than 30 languages per video, helping his content reach fans globally, from Seoul to São Paulo.
Campbell also highlighted feedback from Chef Nick DiGiovanni, who participated in the pilot. DiGiovanni noted that multi-language audio allowed him to connect with viewers in Spanish, Turkish, Vietnamese, Russian, Arabic, and other languages, helping grow his global audience.
Availability and Next Steps
YouTube confirmed that the feature will be rolled out to creators in the coming weeks. The company is also testing multi-language thumbnails, giving creators the option to display localized thumbnails based on a viewer’s selected language.
