Apple schedules ”Peek Performance” event for March 8; new iPhone SE, iPad and more expected

Apple just scheduled its ”Peek Performance” virtual event on March 8th, as rumoured earlier. Apple is expected to launch its new iPhone SE 5G smartphone and a new iPad Air at the event. We can also expect at least one new Mac, based on reports. Apple is also expected to roll out the stable iOS 15.4 update soon after the event.

The invite just shows a multicoloured Apple logo hinting at the colours of new devices, and has “peek performance” tag line hinting at the performance of them. Last year at its Spring event, Apple introduced its new iMac, iPad Pro, iPhone 12 in purple, AirTag, and Apple TV 4K. Will Apple introduce new colours for iPhone 13? We will know next Tuesday.

According to earlier rumours, the new iPhone SE will be powered by A15 Bionic chip and come with 5G support. It is expected to retain the same design as the SE 2 with a Touch ID sensor embedded into the Home Button. The phone is said to start at a $299 price tag, $100 lower than the 2020 iPhone SE.

Another report by Bloomberg suggested that the launch of iPhone SE 2022 will bring down the price of the 2020 model to as low as US $199 in parts of Asia, South America, Africa. This is said to attract Android users to switch to iOS, as Android is dominant in the above regions now.

The new iPad Air 5th Gen is also expected at the event. It could pack an A15 chip, 5G support, 12MP Ultra Wide front camera with Center Stage support, and Quad-LED True Tone flash. The new iPad Air is said to retain the same design as the current model, which includes a 10.9-inch display with slim bezels, a Touch ID power button, and a USB-C port.

The Apple event will begin 10AM PST (11:30 PM IST) on March 8th and will stream from Steve Jobs Theater on the Apple Park campus in Cupertino, California.
