MediaTek Dimensity 800U to power 5G smartphones in India starting January 2021

MediaTek introduced its Dimensity 800U mid-range 5G SoC back in August and it powers several 5G smartphones in China. At the India Mobile Congress 2020 the SoC announced for the Indian market and the company has confirmed that the first phone powered by the Dimesnity 800U processor will be introduced in January 2021. This will likely be the realme X7 5G that is expected to be launched in the country next month.

Mediatek said that it wants to boost the 5G rollout in India with this chipset by bringing dual 5G SIM support to mid-range 5G smartphones with the chipset being capable of delivering great multi-core performance.

The chip supports 5G+5G dual SIM dual standby (DSDS), dual Voice over New Radio (VoNR), and 5G two carrier aggregation (2CC 5G-CA). With the MediaTek 5G UltraSave technology, the modem’s operating mode is managed based on network environment and data transmission quality, extending the battery life of mobile devices.

It has two high-performance Arm Cortex-A76 cores at 2.4GHz, and six 2GHz Arm Cortex-A55 cores and Arm Mali-G57 GPU, which the company says is 11% faster CPU & 28% faster GPU compared to Dimensity 700 series. It has support for 120Hz FHD+ displays, HDR10+ standard for enhanced visual quality, plus the integrated MediaTek MiraVision PQ engine with HDR optimization for various types of videos.

We should know more details about the smartphones powered by Dimensity 800U in the coming weeks.
