Airtel beats Reliance Jio in 4G download speed: OpenSignal

Latest State of Mobile Networks report in India from OpenSignal reveals that Airtel still has fastest download speed among the four national 4G operators. It has an average download speed of 9.15Mbps, compared to Reliance Jio which has download speed of just 5.81Mbps, which is actually behind Vodafone and Idea with 7.45Mbps and 7.4Mbps download speeds, respectively. Airtel to launch 4G VoLTE Android smartphone under Rs. 2000 by Diwali

Airtel is all set to launch its own 4G VoLTE smartphone running Android under Rs. 2000 by Diwali, according to people familiar with the matter. This will take on JioPhone, Reliance Jio’s first feature phone started rolling out to customers starting last week. Airtel has launched Voice over LTE (VoLTE) services in India starting from Mumbai, as expected, making it the second operator in the country to offer VoLTE after Reliance Jio. This lets Airtel customers enjoy HD quality voice calls along with faster call set up time compared to normal voice calls on their VoLTE-compatible 4G handsets. Airtel already offers 4G Advanced Carrier Aggregation technology in Mumbai that offers data speeds of up to 135 Mbps by combining spectrum capacities in 2300MHz (TD LTE) and 1800 MHz (FD LTE). Airtel profits down 75% YoY in FY Q1, India revenues down 10% YoY

Airtel has announced consolidated results for the first quarter ended June 30, 2017 in which it posted consolidated revenue of Rs. 21,958 crore, YoY drop of 11.1%, less than the expected drop of 14.0%. India revenues were at Rs. 17,244 crore that has declined by 10.0% YoY primarily led by mobile drop of 14.1% YoY. Net Income was at Rs 367 crore compared to Rs 1,462 crore in the corresponding quarter last year, down 74.9%.”Mobile market remains turbulent in the current quarter as well, due to disruptive pricing by a new operator,” said Airtel.

Interconnection: Airtel says it is losing Rs. 550 crore per quarter due to calls from Reliance Jio’s network

After an open-house held by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) today regarding interconnection usage charges (IUC) where Reliance Jio proposed to make IUC zero, Airtel has sent out a release saying that Reliance Jio is creating monopoly, throttling competition by proposing zero IUC. “By proposing a transition to the ‘Bill and Keep’ regime with zero MTC, Reliance Jio wants to simply transfer its cost to Airtel and other operators,” said Airtel.

Airtel network restored after temporary outage in Delhi NCR

Airtel just confirmed that its network services in Delhi NCR have been fully restored after a temporary network outage in the circle. People in the region started tweeting about network outage around 7:30 PM, and Airtel acknowledged the issue at about 9PM. “We may be facing a temporary issue while accessing Data/Voice/SMS. We are working to restore it ASAP,” replied Airtel to the customers who were complaining.
