Nokia: 53.8 million handsets in the 1Q 2005

Nokia has published its sales and earnings report of the 1Q 2005. Nokia’s first-quarter 2005 net sales increased to €7.4 billion, a 17% rise compared with the year-ago quarter. Net profit amounted to €863 million, a 18% rise against the 1Q 2004.

For the 1Q 2005 the total mobile device sales volume achieved by the Mobile Phones, Multimedia and Enterprise Solutions business groups reached 53.8 million units (world market volumes for the same period reached an estimated 170 million units).

Nokia 8800 announced

Today Nokia announced the 8800 model – the long awaited successor of the Nokia 8910i from the 8xxx series of high-end luxury phones. The Nokia 8800 has stainless steel body and unique pop-up mechanism. The display of the new phone is protected by scratch-resistant glass and features 262,000 colors and 208×208 pixels resolution. Nokia proudly announces that the preset ringtones and alerts are composed by the award-winning composer Ryuichi Sakamoto. The other features of the phone include 0.5 MP camera with video capture, Bluetooth, EDGE, FM radio. The price of the device will be 750 Euro, the expected availability is set for 3Q, 2005

HMD Touch 4G hybrid phone launched in India for Rs. 3,999

HMD just launched the HMD Touch 4G, which it calls a hybrid phone without a keypad, but with a 3.2″ touch screen, front camera for video calls and there is also Wi-Fi support with hotspot, all in a small package. This reminds of Nokia Asha  phones which were launched 10 years back.

Vi 5G launched in 8 more cities, now live in 17 cities

Vodafone Idea (Vi) today announced the expansion of its 5G services to eight more cities across India. The new locations include Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Surat, and Vadodara in Gujarat; Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Nashik in Maharashtra; and Kozhikode and Malappuram in Kerala.
