WhatsApp is rolling out voice and video calling support on WhatsApp Web, allowing users to place calls directly from a browser without installing a desktop app. First spotted by WABetaInfo, the feature is currently limited to users enrolled in the WhatsApp Web beta program and begins with support for individual chats.
Calling support rolls out on WhatsApp Web
The initial rollout enables one-to-one voice and video calls directly from individual chats on WhatsApp Web. Eligible users can start a call by selecting the voice or video button inside a conversation. The update is particularly relevant for Linux users, who do not have an official WhatsApp desktop app and rely on the web client for communication.

- Calls remain end-to-end encrypted.
- Video calls on the web client also support screen sharing, allowing users to share on-screen content in real time.
- Screen sharing is available only during video calls.
The report notes that WhatsApp is developing group calling support for the web client. Once released, group calls are expected to support up to 32 participants, along with call links and scheduled calls.
Availability
Voice and video calling on WhatsApp Web is rolling out to a limited group of beta users, with wider availability expected in the coming weeks. Group calling will be released later following additional testing.
