KRAFTON is preparing to launch a lightweight variant of its flagship mobile battle royale title, BATTLEGROUNDS MOBILE INDIA (BGMI), according to sources familiar with the matter. Titled BGMI Air, the streamlined build is expected to roll out widely in early December, targeting users on entry-level hardware and devices with limited storage capacity.
Low Storage Footprint and Early Demand

Designed to sit at an approximate download size of 1GB, BGMI Air serves as an optimized alternative to the standard version of the game, which frequently requires substantially more internal storage space and processing capability to run smoothly.
Interest in the title appears high ahead of the expected launch. The game has already surpassed 12 million pre-registrations on the Google Play Store, despite KRAFTON not yet issuing an official public release date or finalized deployment schedule.
Expanding Reach in the Indian Gaming Market
India remains one of the largest and most competitive mobile gaming markets globally, though device hardware fragmentation and bandwidth constraints often present barriers for higher-end titles. By reducing the game’s core installation footprint and system overhead, KRAFTON aims to address these limitations directly.
Industry observers note that offering a lighter client could allow BGMI Air to penetrate deeper into non-tier-1 markets, where budget-friendly smartphones are most prevalent.
If the rollout proceeds as anticipated, the new release is expected to expand the active player base of the broader BGMI ecosystem and lower entry barriers for competitive mobile gaming across the country.
