Apple iPhone 18e specs surface ahead of early 2027 launch

Apple is gearing up to introduce the iPhone 18e next year as the successor to the iPhone 17e. A new leak from prominent tech tipster Digital Chat Station has surfaced, outlining early hardware specifications for Apple’s prospective entry-tier model.

According to the post, which originated on Chinese social media platform Weibo, the device is slated for a 2027 release and reflects a mix of cutting-edge silicon paired with conservative display choices.

Display and Form Factor

According to the leak, the iPhone 18e will retain a 6.12-inch LTPS OLED display with a standard 60Hz refresh rate. If accurate, this indicates Apple will continue to reserve higher-refresh-rate ProMotion displays (120Hz) for its mid-tier or Pro lineups, prioritizing cost efficiency and battery performance in its more accessible models. The 6.12-inch measurement aligns with Apple’s standard sizing conventions for its smaller flagship and budget-oriented chassis.

Next-Generation 2nm Architecture

The most notable detail from the leak centers on the processor: the device is reported to run on an A20 chip fabricated on a 2-nanometer (2nm) process node. Semiconductor manufacturers, including primary Apple partner TSMC, have been developing 2nm technology to deliver significant density, performance, and power efficiency gains over current 3nm nodes.

Equipping an entry-tier model with next-generation processing silicon suggests Apple may continue its practice of using advanced unified chip architectures across broader segments of its smartphone portfolio.

Camera Hardware Adjustments

On the imaging front, the tipster indicates that the rear configuration will feature a single 48MP sensor. Apple transitioned its base models to 48MP main sensors in recent generations, and maintaining a single-lens layout would serve as a key hardware differentiator between the “e” designation and dual- or triple-camera variants.

Concurrently, the front-facing TrueDepth camera is expected to see a hardware upgrade to a 24MP sensor, up from the 12MP modules long utilized across earlier iPhone lines. This potential upgrade would provide improved resolution for video calls, selfies, and biometric authentication.

Release Timeline

The leak projects a launch window in 2027, and it could arrive in Spring 2027 alongside the standard iPhone 18. Given that the projected release is still well in the future, supply chain sources and component orders remain subject to change as engineering validation testing progresses.
