KRAFTON India has officially announced the return of Ocean Odyssey, an underwater-themed gameplay mode set beneath Erangel, as part of the upcoming 4.6 update for BATTLEGROUNDS MOBILE INDIA (BGMI).
The mode is scheduled to go live on September 30, 2026—two weeks following the initial rollout of the 4.6 patch—and will remain available to players through November 16, 2026.
Player Demand Drives the Re-Release
The return of Ocean Odyssey aligns with KRAFTON India’s broader strategy throughout the year of reintroducing popular retired modes based on sustained community interest, mirroring the earlier return of Erangel: Ancient Secrets.
Rather than introducing an entirely new concept, the publisher has opted to revisit an environment that represented one of the title’s most substantial diversions from traditional, land-based battle royale mechanics.
Core Mechanics and Environment
Ocean Odyssey alters standard Erangel gameplay by introducing distinct aquatic zones, hazards, and unique utility items:
- The Ocean Palace: A submerged ancient structure protected by an environmental barrier known as the Sea Suppressor. The barrier creates a temporary dry pocket for exploration and combat. Once the suppressor fails, water floods the structure, requiring players to escape before drowning or being trapped.
- The Trident: Positioned in the center of the Ocean Palace and guarded by the Kraken, this legendary weapon allows players to summon water spouts that launch opposing players across the area.
- The Forsaken Ruins: An additional point of interest designed around high-tier loot distribution, offering equipment rarely found in standard match configurations.
For existing players, the re-release marks the return of an established game variant, while providing newer participants with their first opportunity to experience the submerged mechanics.
