iOS 27 with Siri AI, iPadOS 27 and watchOS 27 will be available on September 14

Apple, at its iPhone 18 Pro event yesterday, announced that iOS 27 will be released on September 14. Apple first previewed iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 at WWDC 2026 in June and has since put the operating systems through several months of beta testing.

Siri AI

Siri AI is the major addition in iOS 27 and marks the public debut of Apple’s revamped digital assistant. Apple has partnered with Google to use Gemini models in training the algorithms that power Siri AI. In Engadget’s early testing, Siri AI could answer complex questions and carry out multi-step prompts.

Siri AI support starts with the following iPhone and iPad models:

  • iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max
  • iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone Air, with a more powerful on-device model
  • Latest iPad mini
  • iPad Air and iPad Pro models with an M1 chip or newer

More recent iPhone models, starting with the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone Air, use a more powerful on-device model for more accurate speech recognition and dictation.

iOS 27 and iPadOS 27

Outside of Siri AI, iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 include:

  • Tweaks to Apple’s Liquid Glass design language
  • New child safety features
  • Performance improvements across the operating systems
macOS 27 Golden Gate

macOS 27 Golden Gate also includes Siri AI, with Apple integrating the assistant directly into Spotlight. The update brings Mac-specific Liquid Glass changes, including:

  • Uniform toolbars
  • Edge-to-edge sidebars
  • More refined window shapes
  • Updated menu bar icons
