Tamil Nadu’s first Dolby Cinema opens at LA Cinema in Trichy

Dolby Laboratories and LA Cinema have announced the launch of Tamil Nadu’s first Dolby Cinema, located in Thiruverumbur, Trichy. The facility opened to the public on April 24, 2026, debuting with the screening of the film Michael.

This installation marks the fourth Dolby Cinema in India, representing an expansion of premium theatrical venues into the country’s regional and culturally significant film markets.

Technical Specifications and Design

The new auditorium at LA Cinema’s Thiruverumbur property is purpose-built to integrate Dolby’s proprietary audio and visual technologies.

  • Dolby Vision: A projection technology designed to provide higher brightness, enhanced contrast with deeper darks, and a wider color spectrum compared to standard formats.
  • Dolby Atmos: An immersive audio system that utilizes multidimensional sound placement, including overhead speakers, to create a spatial auditory experience.
  • Auditorium Architecture: The theater features a wall-to-wall-to-ceiling curved screen, specialized acoustic engineering, and a distraction-free design. Seating is optimized to maintain clear sightlines and consistent audio-visual quality throughout the venue.
Industry Context and Content Pipeline

The launch in Trichy aligns with an increased demand for premium exhibition formats in India’s regional markets. With this addition, LA Cinema becomes part of a global network of Dolby Cinema exhibitors currently operating across 15 countries.

The adoption of Dolby’s exhibition formats coincides with a growing pipeline of compatible content. Globally, over 860 theatrical features have been released or confirmed for release in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.

Tickets for the new Dolby Cinema at LA Cinema are currently available through BookMyShow, with further promotional offers expected in the coming weeks.

Future Dolby Cinema locations that are slated for launch are Allu Cineplex in Hyderabad, EVM Cinemas in Kochi, and G Cineplex in Ulikkal.

Regarding this, Sameer Seth, Director, Marketing – India, Dolby Laboratories, commented:

We are thrilled to bring Dolby Cinema to Tamil Nadu for the very first time. Tamil audiences have a deep-rooted passion for cinema and storytelling, and this launch in Trichy reflects our commitment to delivering the most spectacular and immersive experiences to moviegoers across India. As the fourth Dolby Cinema in the country, this milestone represents an important step in our journey to expand premium cinema experiences beyond metro cities and into key cultural hubs.

Joseph Francis Adaikalaraj, managing director, LA Cinema, said:

Introducing Tamil Nadu’s first Dolby Cinema at LA Cinema is a proud and landmark moment that reflects our legacy of innovation. LA Cinema has been an early adopter of Dolby’s groundbreaking innovations – we were among the pioneers of Dolby Atmos in India and were the first to bring that immersive sound experience to a balcony-seated screen. Today, we take that commitment a step further. Within our massive six-screen 1,520-seat multiplex, our specially designed 456-seat Dolby Cinema auditorium serves as the crown jewel. It allows us to offer an unmatched moviegoing experience—one that combines breathtaking visuals, powerful sound, and a distraction-free space to truly elevate how films are experienced. Our vision has always been to bring the very best global cinema innovations to Trichy, and this collaboration with Dolby makes that a reality.
