realme has officially announced the release of its latest smartphone, the realme 16 5G, as it had promised. The device is marketed toward younger consumers and emphasizes high-resolution portrait photography, a high-capacity battery, and a lightweight form factor.
Camera Specifications
The realme 16 5G is equipped with a dual 50MP camera system, integrating various AI-driven software features for photography and video editing.
- Rear Camera: Features a 50MP Sony IMX852 sensor (1/2.93-inch) with an f/1.8 aperture and autofocus capabilities.
- Front Camera: Features a 50MP sensor designed for individual and group portraits.
- Hardware Additions: The device includes a rear selfie mirror, allowing users to frame themselves while using the primary rear camera. This is supported by an Aura Ring Flash for lighting, as well as voice countdown and “Say Hi” gesture recognition for hands-free capture.
- Camera Software: The phone utilizes the LumaColor IMAGE engine (previously seen on the realme 16 Pro) and features Vibe Master Mode for customizable atmospheric presets. Post-capture editing is handled by AI Edit Genie, which includes tools like AI Inspiration, AI StyleMe, and AI LightMe. For video, AI Instant Clip automatically generates short videos from selected photos and clips.
Design and Build
The device employs what realme calls an “Air Design” philosophy, balancing a large battery with a relatively thin and light profile through high-density internal component stacking.
- Dimensions & Weight: The phone measures 8.1mm in thickness and weighs 183g.
- Display: It features a 6.57-inch compact display with a 2.23mm bottom bezel.
- Rear Panel: The back features a horizontal camera bar layout. The surface utilizes a “Gleaming Wings” blue-gold gradient texture, finished with a fine sand texture and a curved anti-fingerprint coating to reduce smudges.
Battery, Charging, and Durability
- Battery Capacity: The smartphone houses a 7000mAh battery. According to realme’s Titan Long-Life Algorithm, the battery is designed to maintain at least 80% of its health after 1,600 full charge cycles.
- Charging: It supports 60W fast charging, which is advertised to charge the device to 50% in 30 minutes and 100% in 74 minutes. It also supports bypass charging (powering the mainboard directly during heavy use to reduce heat) and reverse charging.
- Durability Ratings: The realme 16 5G features extensive water and dust resistance, holding IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K certifications.
Operating System
The device runs on realme UI 7.0, which incorporates the Flux Engine for AI-based resource management and smoother scrolling. realme states the software includes a 72-month fluency protection plan for long-term operational stability.
