Xiaomi disables downgrading from Android 10 to Pie on Android One devices: Here’s why

Xiaomi rolled out Android 10 update to Mi A2 users last month and started rolling out Android 10 update for Mi A3 yesterday only. The company is yet to roll out Android 10 update for Mi A2 Lite but the company recently released Android 10 based Kernel Source codes for the device.

Now, Xiaomi has announced that Mi A3, Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite users should not downgrade to Android 9.0 (Pie) after updating to Android 10. The company warns users that downgrading may have adverse effects on these devices as Android 10 brings many irreversible updates.

A post by Mi Community admin says,

Hello Mi A2/A2 Lite/A3 users,

Please note that your device should not be attempted to roll back to Android P once it got updated to Android Q.

Since Android Q brings many irreversible updates to the system, rolling back to previous versions may cause errors and defects, which can have an adverse effect on the normal functioning of your device.

Xiaomi doesn’t have a good record of providing the bug-free update to Android One devices in the past, even recently released Android 10 update for Mi A3 has caused fingerprint related issues. We advise our readers to not update their devices before getting feedback about the update as they can’t downgrade ROM anymore in case the update is buggy.
