Amazon India stops offering refunds on tablets, laptops and other electronics

Amazon India has updated its returns and refunds policies for electronic goods. Under the new policy, Amazon will not offer refund on electronic goods like laptops, desktops, monitors, cameras and camera lenses.

All the aforementioned electronics that are fulfilled by Amazon and purchased on or after May 11, 2016 are eligible for a replacement only policy and will no longer be eligible for refunds. Amazon said that if a customer receives a defective or a damaged product he/she will be eligible for a free replacement. Electronic items still need to be returned within 10 days of delivery, the company said.

In case of refurbished electronics like mobiles, tablets and laptops, Amazon India will issue refunds if the customers return the same within 10 days of purchase. The company did not clarify what will happen if the seller cannot provide replacements for electronic items fulfilled by Amazon.

Amazon’s rival Flipkart also offers a similar policy and provides refunds only when the seller is unable to offer replacements. Earlier in February, Amazon India tweaked its return policy under which buyers can no longer be able to return the mobile phones purchased on Amazon unless the item is damaged, missing, or defective, as per their new returns policy. The move came from Amazon as a large number of people were buying latest smartphones and returning them after using for a week, thereby abusing the return policy.
