Alphabet revenue up 24% YoY in Q4 2017, Google ad, cloud business remain strong

Google’s parent company, Alphabet today announced financial results for the quarter and fiscal year ended December 31, 2017. The company posted a record 24% increase in revenue with $32.323 billion compared to the $26.064 billion in Q4 2016. Google launches 150 Google Station Wi-Fi hotspots across Pune

Back in September 2016, Google introduced Google Stations, a new internet access platform for partners to setup, maintain and monetize their Wi-Fi networks in their places with Google Fiber. Later in February last year, Google bagged Rs. 150 crore deal to provide WiFi across Pune via its Google Station initiative.

Google took down over 700,000 bad apps from Play Store in 2017, 70% more than 2016

Today Google has announced that it took down 700,000 bad apps that violated the Google Play policies from Play Store in 2017 which is also 70% more than the apps that it took down in 2016. You can now talk to Google Assistant in Hindi – Here’s how to enable it [Update: Only for select Hindi queries]

Update: Google India today clarified that Hindi support for the Assistant has not been launched and Hindi support is only available in the Google Assistant as part of Allo. Check out the official statement below.

The Google Assistant on Android phones and iPhones is currently available in English in India, built for English input but supporting a few selected Hindi queries. While we’ve launched the Hindi Google Assistant on Allo, it’s not available on phones yet. We are looking to bring the Assistant experience to more Indian languages over time.

Google completes acquisition of part of HTC’s smartphone division for $1.1 Billion

Back in September last year, Google officially confirmed that it has signed a deal with HTC to acquire team of HTC talent for US$1.1 billion in cash and said that transaction is expected to close by early 2018 after approvals. Today Google has confirmed that it has officially closed the deal.
