The European Union announced that it would launch bug bounty program in 2019 January that will offer prizes for spotting security flaws in 14 free, open source software tools EU institutions use. These include well-known tools like  VLC Media Player, KeePass, 7-zip and Drupal, GNU C Library, Apache Tomcat, PuTTY and more. European Commission fines Google $5.04 billion for forcing its apps on Android manufacturers

The European Commission has fined Google €4.34 billion ($5.04 billion) for breaching EU antitrust rules. It claims that since 2011, Google has imposed illegal restrictions on Android device manufacturers and mobile networks to cement its dominant position in general internet search.

The European Commission has fined Google 2.42 billion euro for breaching EU antitrust rules. The search engine giant was expected to hit with a fine up to 3 billion euro. EU had filed formal antitrust charges on Google last year over claims that it has abused its market dominance as a search engine by giving an illegal advantage to another Google product, its comparison shopping service.
