The sun is finally setting on Windows Phone 8.1. Microsoft is officially ending support for the Windows Phone 8.1 OS, more than three years after it was introduced. Millions of users with Windows Phone 8.1 phones will stop receiving security updates, non-security updates, free or paid assisted support options or online technical content updates.

In the wake of recent ransomware attacks, India is asking Microsoft to offer a one-time discount to the more than 50 million Windows users in the country, according to a latest report from Reuters. India wants the discount so users can upgrade to the latest Windows 10 operating system following recent ransomware attacks.

Microsoft has acquired Israel-based cloud management company Cloudyn. The deal is reportedly worth between $50 million and $70 million. Microsoft plans to incorporate Cloudyn into its Azure platform.

Microsoft has updated its AI-powered Pix camera app with filters similar to Prisma. The feature was developed in collaboration with Microsoft’s Asia research lab and Skype. Pix Styles, transforms pictures into styles inspired by popular works of art or adds an effect such as making the picture look like it is on fire.

Microsoft has signed an agreement to acquire cybersecurity firm Hexadite. The Israeli based company was founded in 2014 and specializes in delivering automatic incident investigation and remediation solutions. In May, Israeli financial news website Calcalist said Microsoft would pay $100 million for Hexadite. Neither of the companies has revealed terms of the deal.

Microsoft has detailed a bunch of new features for OneDrive on second day of Build 2017 conference. The company announced that it is bringing back OneDrive Files On-Demand feature to Windows 10 Fall Creators update.

Microsoft has released Cortana Skill Kit in public review at the Build 2017 conference. Developers will be able to build skills for Cortana by creating a bot and publishing it to the new Cortana channel of the Bot Framework. This is available across Windows 10, Android, iOS and the new Cortana-powered Harman Kardon Invoke speaker.
