Lava and UP Govt. partner to digitize anganwadi services

Lava International Limited has partnered with the Government of Uttar Pradesh to distribute smartphones to 20,941 Anganwadi workers across the state. The initiative aims to digitally empower frontline healthcare workers and improve last-mile service delivery under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) framework.

Event Overview

The distribution was officially launched during an event held at Lok Bhavan in Lucknow in March 2026. Organized under the theme “Suposhit Uttar Pradesh, Sashakt Bharat,” the ceremony was attended by approximately 1,000 Anganwadi workers. Key state officials present at the event included:

  • Yogi Adityanath: Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh
  • Baby Rani Maurya: Minister of Women’s Welfare, Child Development and Nutrition
  • Leena Johri: Additional Chief Secretary, Women and Child Development (WCD)
  • Sarneet Kaur Broca: Director, WCD
Technological Deployment

Through this collaboration, Lava supplied smartphones from its Storm Play series, which are specifically optimized for field-level operations. To ensure secure and efficient alignment with ICDS and WCD systems, the devices feature several custom software integrations:

  • Mobile Device Management (MDM): To secure and manage the devices remotely.
  • Supervisor Monitoring Application: To oversee field operations and data entry.
  • State-Specific Integrations: Custom interfaces designed for Uttar Pradesh’s localized health and welfare systems.
Operational Impact

Providing digital tools to frontline workers is intended to shift grassroots operations from manual record-keeping to real-time, data-driven management. Utilizing the customized devices, Anganwadi workers are now equipped to:

  • Update Health Metrics: Capture and log maternal and child health data in real time.
  • Manage Administration: Track daily tasks and manage worker attendance digitally.
  • Monitor Nutrition Distribution: Record the distribution and identify stock availability of food packets for newborns and lactating mothers.
  • Streamline Reporting: Feed localized data directly into centralized dashboards, enabling faster decision-making and the early identification of potential health and nutrition risks.
Broader Objectives

The transition to digital data collection aims to improve overall system monitoring by reducing the reliance on manual logs and accelerating the reporting cycle.

For the Uttar Pradesh government, this initiative serves a broader strategy to strengthen the delivery of welfare programs and bridge the digital divide through scalable technology. Concurrently, the collaboration underscores Lava International’s active role in facilitating public sector digital transformation projects.

Commenting on the partnership, Llyod D’souza, Chief Business Officer – Enterprise Business, Lava International Limited, said:

Digital transformation at the grassroots is not just about access to devices, but about building systems that work reliably at scale for those delivering essential services on a day-to-day basis. We are equally delighted and proud to collaborate with the Government of Uttar Pradesh to further their mission of enabling digital transformation through Anganwadi workers. This initiative is a testament of our ability to design and deliver technology solutions tailored for real-world public sector needs, combining hardware, software and on-ground understanding. We remain committed to supporting large-scale, inclusive digital adoption across Bharat.
