The Updates Continue to Roll from Nokia: E63 AND 5800XM get new firmware and Nokia Maps Updater goes to V1.08

Nokia E63 gets a new firmware

Closely following E71, E66 and E 51 the E63 today got its share of the updates from Nokia in the form of a new Firmware V200.21.012. There is no official changelog out yet. As always the update brings speed and web browsing improvements.

The E63 does not have UDP (User Data Preservation), so remember to backup all your data before the firmware update, since it will format the phone memory. So all you E63 users do let us know about the changes you see after updating the firmware in our comments section. Also the firmware is not available as Over the Air update as E63 is S60V2

5800XM gets a new firmware too

The 5800XM too got some firmware love from Nokia, taking its firmware to V 21.0.110, in terms of the version change theupdate seems to be minor one, and also the firmware update is currently avaiable to Honk Kong Product codes only.

The 5800XM supports UDP(User Data Preservation) and Over the Air Updates too, but do make a backup no matter how you chose to update your device.

Nokia Maps Update hits V1.08

If you experienced any problems recently with version 1.07 of the Nokia desktop Application, Nokia Maps Updater, you will be pleased to know, it has been updated to v1.08 which fixes the issue with its previous version of not connecting or finding the connected Nokia device. In some cases, version 1.07 would either just hang, or even crash whilst searching for updates.

As soon as V1.07 was released, there was a flood of issues reported from many people experiencing problems with it, and its good to know, Nokia has in this case, listened to the end users, and done something very quickly about it. Thumbs up from me on this one Nokia!

I can confirm that V1.08 now works very well, and is very stable, having successfully used it to update maps on my N97, N95’s, and N82 without any problems.

To get the Update, simply launch your existing installation of Nokia Maps Updater, and you will be prompted to download, and install the new version. It is recommended that you exit all programs during installation, and also give the installation permissions in your firewall settings should you have any popups during the installation process.

If you do not already have a previous version of Nokia Maps Updater, you can get all the required files, help, and information here, where you will find, not only Nokia Maps Updater, but also Nokia Map Loader, which allows you to download your given choice of Nokia Maps to your device, so you can experience free usage of Maps with no Internet connection. You will also, with this new version of maps, be able to Sync with Ovi, which lets you save all your Favorites, Landmarks, and even pre-plan your trips on your desktop, and transfer routes to your device even.(Via:Nokia Users)

Seems like Nokia has begun the second half of this year with a bang.
