Apple has expanded its smartphone lineup with the introduction of the iPhone 17e, a device positioned as a more accessible option within the iPhone 17 family. The new model incorporates updated processing hardware, and proprietary connectivity components.
Performance and Connectivity
At the core of the iPhone 17e is the new A19 chip, built on 3-nanometer technology. Alongside the main processor, the device features Apple’s latest proprietary cellular modem.
- A19 Chipset: Includes a 6-core CPU that Apple states is up to twice as fast as the iPhone 11, alongside a 4-core GPU that supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing for gaming.
- Neural Engine: An upgraded 16-core Neural Engine is included to run large generative models and support Apple Intelligence features locally.
- C1X Modem: The Apple-designed C1X modem matches the speeds of the iPhone Air and is reported to be up to twice as fast as the C1 modem found in the previous iPhone 16e. It also uses 30% less energy compared to the modem in the iPhone 16 Pro.
Design and Display

The device retains a standard smartphone form factor, utilizing an aerospace-grade aluminum chassis and an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance.
- Display: Features a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with a peak HDR brightness of up to 1200 nits.
- Ceramic Shield 2: The front cover utilizes the second generation of Ceramic Shield, which includes an anti-reflective coating to reduce glare and offers a claimed threefold increase in scratch resistance over the previous generation.
- Hardware Inputs: The device incorporates Face ID for biometric authentication and includes the Action button, allowing users to map specific functions or shortcuts to a physical press.
Camera and Video Capabilities
The iPhone 17e utilizes a single-lens primary camera system designed to offer multiple focal lengths through sensor cropping.
- 48MP Fusion Camera: The main sensor shoots at 24MP by default but can capture full 48MP resolution images. It utilizes the center of the sensor to provide an optical-quality 2x telephoto zoom.
- Portrait and HDR Features: The image pipeline automatically captures depth information when it recognizes subjects like people or pets, allowing users to apply or adjust background blur after the photo is taken. It also features updated HDR processing for improved skin tones and detail retention in shadows and highlights.
- Video Recording: Supports 4K Dolby Vision video recording at up to 60 fps. It also captures Spatial Audio for use with AirPods or Apple Vision Pro and includes machine learning-based wind noise reduction.
Battery, Charging, and Software

Power management is handled by a combination of the A19 chip, the energy-efficient C1X modem, and the iOS 26 operating system.
- Wired Charging: Using a USB-C connection, the device can charge to 50% in approximately 30 minutes.
- Wireless Charging: Supports MagSafe and Qi2 standards, allowing for wireless charging speeds up to 15W (an increase from the 7.5W Qi limit on the iPhone 16e).
The iPhone 17e carries over and expands upon Apple’s suite of emergency and off-grid communication tools such as Satellite Connectivity in select countries and Crash Detection.
