vivo just introduced the X Fold5 foldable phone in China, as they had promised. The phone has an 8.03″ 2K+ 120Hz LTPO screen that can reach up to 4,500 nits of local peak brightness. The cover display is 6.53″ FHD+ which is also a 120Hz LTPO panel with the same 4,500 nits of peak brightness.
It is powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, same as the X Fold3 Pro and has 20762mm² VC + graphite heat dissipation. The vivo X Fold5 folding screen mobile phone has an innovative hinge antenna, which is designed at the hinge position to save internal space to the greatest extent and ensure the cellular network experience when folded.
The new phone is based on joint tuning with Qualcomm to achieve multistandard signal coexistence. Combined with vivo’s exclusive dual-screen enhanced antenna technology, the main and secondary screen antennas work independently in the unfolded state, and work together to enhance the signal strength by 36% in the folded state.
Vivo said that the vivo X Fold5 foldable screen mobile phone has a smooth high-speed rail experience, and the network fluency of using Tencent Conference video on the Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed Railway is 99% without any lag.
The vivo X Fold5 is the only folding screen in the industry that supports IPX8, IPX9 and IPX9+ waterproof levels. It can withstand the impact of 80° hot water and high-pressure water guns. It is also the first folding screen in the industry to achieve IP5X dustproof. The phone supports antifreeze properties and can still be used normally at -20℃.
The phone has a 50MP ‘ultra-sensing’ unit with a 1/1.56″ Sony IMX921 sensor and an f/1.57 lens with OIS. Additionally, it features a 50MP 3x telephoto module with a Sony IMX882 sensor and a 50MP ultra-wide-angle module. The selfie cameras utilize a pair of 20MP sensors.
The vivo X Fold5 foldable screen phone is the first Android phone to connect to Apple Watch, which can answer calls, view messages, and even synchronize health data to the vivo health app. It also supports a seamless experience with AirPods. The vivo X Fold5 is also the first in the industry to access Mac in file management, allowing you to view computer files at will, and support dragging and dropping files across applications. The phone can also be used as an extended screen for Mac.
The X Fold5 can support the flow of iPhone calls, messages and notifications, which can be easily handled without switching devices. In addition, the iPhone can be directly connected to the X Fold5’s hotspot.
The vivo X Fold5 is the first with a 6000mAh blue ocean battery ; the industry’s first fourth-generation silicon negative electrode technology, with an energy density of up to 866Wh/L, an increase of 13% at room temperature and 20% at low temperature compared to the previous generation; the industry’s first second-generation semi-solid-state battery technology, achieving normal battery power supply at -30℃.
In addition, vivo and CATL have worked closely together to innovatively adopt a subversive double-layer electrode structure on the X Fold5, which allows the overall silicon content of the negative electrode to reach 12%, about 2.5 times that of the previous generation. It has 80W fast wired charging and 40W wireless charging.
