OnePlus 10R Unboxing and First Impressions


OnePlus launched the OnePlus 10R smartphone in India last week as the successor to last year’s OnePlus 9R. It has upgrades in all the areas starting from the display, SoC, camera and packs a whopping 150W fast charging and also comes in 80W model that has a slightly bigger battery. We got to check out the 150W SUPERVOOC Endurance Edition. Here are our first impressions.

Even though OnePlus brought a USB Type-C charger with the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro, the 10 Pro went back to Type-A charger. Now the 160W charger that comes with a USB Type-C charger. The charger also supports PD and PPS charging as well and is quite heavy, so it might not be easy to carry around.

The phone has a 6.7-inch Full HD+ AMOLED screen which a centre punch-hole. Since it has up to 950 nits brightness, the screen is bright even outdoors, and the 100% DCI-P3 wide color gamut offers vibrant colours. It has 120Hz refresh rate screen with up to 750Hz instant touch sampling rate, thanks to HyperBoost game frame stabilization engine that offers game stability, AI computing, and night scene video noise reduction.

Inside the tiny punch-hole, there is a 16-megapixel camera. The earpiece grill is present on the top edge, which doubles up as a secondary speaker.

It is minimal bottom bezel. The phone features an in-display fingerprint scanner.

It is the first phone with custom MediaTek Dimensity 8100-MAX SoC that combines the HyperBoost game frame stabilization engine to offers game stability, AI computing, and night scene video noise reduction. The phone has 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB UFS 3.1 storage.

The performance is good, and the gaming experience is good in Genshin Impact offering steady 60 fps, but is not optimized for BGMI, and it only has maxium HD graphics and High frame rate mode in Smooth, Balanced and HD graphics modes. Hope the company will optimize it with HDR option and Extreme frame rate in the future.

There is a Frame Plus option in select games like PUBG and BGMI that will add virtual images between frames using discrete graphics for a high frame rate gaming experience even if the game is set to lower frame rate, says the company. However, this doesn’t work since the frame rate needs to be 60 fps which is missing in the game.

It has efficient cooling system with total heat dissipation area of 35198.2mm², VC liquid cooling system covering the area up to 4129.8mm², has graphite cooling with better cooling effect Materials. The phone runs Android 12 with OxygenOS 12.1, and the company has promised 3 Android OS updates and 4 years of security patches.

Coming to the button placements and ports, the power button is present on the right side, the volume rockers are present on the left. The dual SIM slot, primary microphone, USB Type-C port and the loudspeaker grill are present on the bottom. The secondary microphone is on the top, along with a speaker vent. The phone doesn’t have an expandable storage. This has a plastic frame, so you don’t see antenna bands.

The phone has an AG glass back that uses pioneering high-precision lithography, is resistant to fingerprints, and the dual textures blend a dynamic visual effect with a premium experience. The camera module is a compelling design statement, underscoring a bold future, says the company.

The phone packs a 4,500mAh battery with 150W SuperVOOC wired fast charging that can charge up to 50% in 5 minutes and 100% in 17 minutes. It also TUV Rhineland fast charging certification for safety. The Smart Battery Health Algorithm can track and control the maximum charging current and ensure it stays within a safe range to reduce the probability of dead lithium cells, thereby extending the battery’s lifespan significantly.

Battery Healing Technology on the OnePlus 10R with 150W SUPERVOOC Endurance Edition allows electrodes to be continuously repaired during charging cycles, reducing the damage done to anodes and cathodes in the device’s battery to preserve its capacity. Even after 1600 charge and discharge cycles, the battery lifespan of phone will remain at 80%, says the company.

The OnePlus 10R 150W SUPERVOOC Endurance Edition model that we have costs Rs. 43,999 for the single 12GB + 256GB model, and the 80W standard model with a bigger 5000mAh battery starts at Rs. 38,999 for the 8GB + 128GB model. The phone will be available from tomorrow, May 4th on Amazon.in, OnePlus India website, Store app, OnePlus experience stores, Reliance Digital stores, Croma stores and select partner stores.
