Uber launches in Warangal; now serving riders in 100 cities across India

Uber launched its services in India back in 2013 starting from Bengaluru, and it rapidly expanded to several cities across the country. Today, the company has announced that it has begun serving riders and drivers in Warangal in Telangana, marking the company’s expansion to 100 cities across India.

Since then, it has served nearly 95 million riders and drivers, till date, said the company. In addition to raid hailing, it also offers Rentals, UberConnect, Auto and Moto in India. Uber launched UberMedic, Uber Essential, Last Mile Delivery, and offered free rides to healthcare workers and vulnerable communities during the lockdown.

Earlier this year, as a part of Uber’s larger commitment to help India move forward, Uber pledged free rides worth INR 10 Cr to the Government of India and other reputed NGOs like HelpAge India, Robin Hood Army, American India Foundation, and UNESCO to remove transportation as a barrier for vaccination beneficiaries.

In April 2021, Uber began a campaign to support vaccinations by compensating drivers for the time spent in getting the shots. As of November 2021, almost 300,000 drivers on Uber’s platform have received at least one COVID vaccine shot, said Uber.

Commenting on the milestone, Shiva Shailendran, Head of Cities Operations, Uber India & South Asia said:

We are thrilled to begin serving our 100th city in India through this launch in Warangal. At Uber, communities matter to us and we are proud of what we have achieved in India in the last 8 years. Over the years, Uber has changed how the world moves by powering billions of rides and deliveries, connecting millions of riders, businesses, drivers, and couriers across the world at a scale like no other. We aim to amplify the company’s success with the help of technology and product innovation as we develop customer-first products for our global and Indian market. Our India journey is only just beginning, and we look forward to celebrating many more milestones in the years to come.
