Update: September 1, 2021: Disney+ Hotstar has started rolling out its new plans from today, after announcing it back in July. It has also confirmed the video and audio quality details in each plan, which you can check in the image below.
All the existing Disney+ Hotstar VIP users will continue to enjoy the benefits of their current plan until the membership expires. Post that all the existing Disney+ Hotstar VIP and Annual Sports plan members will migrate to new Mobile Plan and the existing Disney+ Hotstar Premium members will migrate to new Premium plan.
Earlier: Star & Disney India launched Disney+ Hotstar in India back in April last year with two plans, Rs. 399 VIP plan for movies from the Marvel Cinematic Universe in local languages, access to live sporting events, movies, shows, and Hotstar originals and a separate Diney+ Hotstar Premium at Rs. 1,499 for Disney+ Originals and movies in English.
Now the company has ditched the VIP plan for a new set of plans starting at Rs. 499 just like Netflix. It is also removing Rs. 299 monthly premium plan, so now you can stream premium content on all the plans.
New Hotstar yearly plans
- Rs. 499 Mobile (Ad-Supported) plan lets you stream in HD (720p) on 1 mobile device
- Rs. 899 Super plan lets you stream in FHD (1080p) on two devices (mobile / desktop / TV)
- 1499 Disney+ Hotstar Premium lets you stream in 4K on four devices (mobile / desktop / TV)
The company said that all the existing Disney+ Hotstar VIP members will be migrated to the new Mobile Plan. Users will be able to watch English content across multiple devices till the time their current membership expires. These plans come into effect starting September 1st.
Disney+ Hotstar has also revealed a star-studded slate of 16 original series and four films. It will continue to bring live streams of popular cricket tournaments, including the Vivo IPL 2021 and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
