Kirin 985 5G 7nm Octa-Core SoC with Mali-G77 GPU, Dual NPU announced

HUAWEI’s HONOR brand at the HONOR 30series  launch event introduced Kirin 985 SoC that lies between the Kirin 980 and the 980 and powers the HONOR 30 smartphone . It uses 7nm processor technology, similar to the 990. This has one ARM Cortex-A76 prime core clocked at 2.58GHz, three ARM Cortex-A76 larger core clocked at 2.40GHz and the other four smaller ARM Cortex-A55 cores are clocked at 1.84GHz. It has ARM Mali-G77 GPU and supports Kirin Gaming+ 2.0 technology.

It has 1 (Big Core) performance + 1 (Smaller Core) ultra lower consumption Da Vinci-based NPU, built-in 5G modem with 5G dual-mode, five frequencies, multi-dimensional search, such as network search, uplink / down link speed, and dual SIM experience and adopts ISP 5.0, same as the Kirin 990. The company also said that the 5G modem in Kirin 985 is 1.5 times more power efficient compared to the X55 5G modem in the Snapdragon 865.

The company did not compare the Kirin 985 with any other processor, but AnTuTu benchmark run on HONOR 30 reveals advantages in terms of CPU / GPU performance compared to Kirin 980 and Kirin 820.
