Qualcomm introduced its flagship Snapdragon 865 Mobile platform at its Snapdragon Tech Summit 2019 earlier this month. The latest flagship SoC finally moves from A76 to A77-based Kryo 585 cores arranged in a tri-cluster architecture that includes one Kryo 585 Prime A77-based CPU clocked at up to 2.84GHz, three Kryo 585 Performance A77-based CPUs clocked at up to 2.42GHz and the other four Kryo 585 Efficiency A55-based CPUs are clocked at up to 1.80GHz. It is fabricated using the Samsung 7nm EUV (7LPP) Process Technology.
This promises up to 25% performance improvement, over the Snapdragon 855. It also packs the new Qualcomm Adreno 650 GPU that promises up to 25% overall performance boost compared to Adreno 640 GPU in the Snapdragon 855.
The Snapdragon 865 is capable of operating at whopping speeds of up to 2 gigapixels per second, is capable of shooting 8K 30fps video, and capturing up to massive 200-megapixel photos. The 5th Generation Qualcomm AI Engine delivers 15 TOPS (Trillion Operations Per Second) of AI performance and at the heart is the Qualcomm Hexagon Tensor Accelerator that has 4 times the TOPS performance of the previous Tensor Accelerator.
We checked out the Snapdragon 865 refrence device with a 6-inch (1440 x 2880 pixels) QHD+ screen, 12GB RAM and 64GB storage. It is the first Snapdragon SoC to support LPDDR5 2750MHz, 4x16bit memory. Here is the benchmark comparison.
