After rumors, Instagram has officially launched Threads, the company’s latest camera-first messaging app to communicate what you’re doing and how you’re feeling through photos and videos with close friends. “It opens directly to the camera and allows you to add shortcuts, so you can share what you’re doing in just two taps,”says the company.
Messages from your close friends list will appear in both Threads and Direct, so you have full control over how and with whom you want to interact. In addition to suggested status (📚 Studying), you can create your own (😅 Procrastinating), or turn on Auto Status (🚗 On the move), which automatically shares little bits of context on where you are without giving away your coordinates. Only your close friends will see your status, and it’s completely opt-in.
Close Friends Only
Threads works with the people on your Close Friends list, so you’re in control of who can reach you on the app. You can create and edit your list anytime on Instagram or Threads.
You can share photos and videos in ⚡️speed. Use camera shortcuts to send them to your close friends in just two taps.
Share What You’re Up To with Status
You can choose from a selection of pre-set statuses (📚 Studying), create your own (😅 Procrastinating), or enable automatic status, which shares little bits of context with your friends (for example, if you’re 🌲 In the wild). You can choose whether to use status, and only your close friends will see your status.
Continue Using Instagram
Messages from your Close Friends will now appear in Threads, but you will still have access them on Instagram.
