Vivo this week launched the Z1x smartphone in India with a Super AMOLED display, Snapdragon 712 SoC and a huge 4500mAh battery with 22.5W fast charging starting at Rs. 16,990. Here we have the unboxing and gaming from our Tamil channel and first impressions of the phone.

The Z1x features a 6.38-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED Halo Full View with 90% screen-to-body ratio and 1.8mm narrow side bezels. The display is bright, colors are vibrant and the viewing angles are good as well. The phone also has DC dimming in the form of low brightness anti-flicker. It has SCHOTT Xensation Glass protection, which the company says is 8.15% better than the competition.

There is a 32-megapixel camera with f/2.0 aperture and Samsung GD1 sensor in the waterdrop notch. It runs Funtouch OS 9 based on Android 9.0 (Pie). The usual set of proximity and ambient light sensors are on the bezel. The phone doesn’t have a notification LED. Powered by Snapdragon 712  SoC with 6GB of LPDDR4x RAM, the phone features Multi Turbo which features Net Turbo, Center Turbo, AI Turbo and Cooling Turbo functions for better network, gaming, AI experience and bring down the temperature for a seamless performance, even during intense gaming sessions.

Even though the UI looks attractive, and comes with Dark mode, it needs some time getting used to since the quick settings bar comes up from the bottom. There is a bezel below the screen. The phone uses an in-display fingerprint scanner, which can unlock the phone in 0.48 seconds, according to the company, which seems to be true since it is quick.

The power button and the volume rockers are present on the right side. On the left there is a dual SIM slot. There is also a key to launch the Google Assistant easily. On the bottom there is a 3.5mm audio jack, microphone, USB Type-C port and the loudspeaker grill.

Unlike the Z1 Pro which had dedicated dual SIM and microSD slots, this doesn’t have a microSD slot, which might not be a big deal since it comes with 64GB (UFS 2.1) storage and also a 128GB (UFS 2.1) storage option.

On the back there is a 48-megapixel primary camera with f/1.78 aperture, Sony IMX582 sensor, 8-megapixel 120° wide-angle camera with f/2.2 aperture and a 2-megapixel camera with f/2.4 aperture. The LED flash is present below the cameras.

Even though the back is not made of glass, the gradient finish looks attractive. The company also bundles a case in the box, you can use it to prevents smudges or scratches. Under the hood there is a huge 4500mAh battery with Vivo’s FlashCharge fast charging with the bundled 22.5W charger. It can easily last for two days and the fast charging lets you charge the phone in about one and half hour and can charge to 50% in 30 minutes.

The Vivo Z1x starts at Rs. 16,990 for the 6GB RAM with 64GB storage version and will be available from Flipkart Store starting from September 13. We will bring you the camera samples and the full review soon.
