Apple donates Rs. 7 crore to Kerala flood relief

Apple on Saturday announced that it will be donating Rs 7 crore towards the ongoing relief work in Kerala. To remind you, Apple started accepting Mercy Corps Donations through the App Store and iTunes Store for Kerala floods. Users can donate up to $5, $10, $25, $50, $100, or $200, 100% of which goes to Mercy Corps. 

Since the start of floods in Kerala, over 400 have lost their lives, while hundreds are stranded homeless. Apple said that it is heartbroken by the catastrophic flooding in Kerala and this fund is to bring back life in the state and help the displaced and rebuild homes and schools. It is making the donation to Mercy Corps India and the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund to support such efforts.

Apple in a statement said:

We’re heartbroken by the catastrophic flooding in Kerala. Apple is donating Rs 7 crore to support the life-saving work Mercy Corps India and the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund are undertaking to support survivors, help those who have been displaced and rebuild homes and schools.Apple often uses the iTunes Store and App Stores to raise money for donation during major disasters. We have also activated a donation button on iTunes and the App Store so customers who wish to donate to Mercy Corps’ efforts can do so easily.

Samsung recently said that it will contribute Rs. 1.5 crore to the Kerala Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF) alongside donating 10,000 bedding sets to the people of the state. It has also deployed its Customer Service Vans and will set up a relief camp in the state of Kerala to help people affected by the floods.

In addition, Xiaomi, LG, Huawei have waived off service charges on repairs and 50% discount on spare parts. However, the deadline for the same is 31st August.
