Xiaomi Mi A2 Beta testing to start soon as the company opens registrations

Xiaomi launched the second-generation Android One device – Mi A2 in India earlier this month. At the event, Xiaomi and Google promised Android version updates along with monthly security patch updates as the device was launched under the Android One program. Going by the history of first gen of Android One device Mi A1, Xiaomi has managed to provide monthly security patch updates, at the time of writing Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite have already received August security patch while Mi A1 is yet to receive it.

In past, the company has struggled to deliver on the promise of keeping the Android version up to date, as Mi A1 received Android Oreo 8.1 update in June 2018, the same update was rolled out to Mi A1 Beta ROM testers in mid-June.

Xiaomi has a tradition of involving users in Beta testing for their devices and in case you managed to purchase a Mi A2 in the flash sale and want to test the updates before everyone else, there is a good news for you. Xiaomi has recently posted recruitment for Beta testers for Mi A2 on Mi Community India, you can apply here to be a part of the Beta testing team in case you’re interested.

Though the recruitment is open to all users, active members of Mi Community have an advantage over others, so if you have an active profile on Mi Community you should apply for it. Users are also supposed to install an instant messenger Telegram to discuss bugs with other testers and team. Deadline for applying is 31st Aug and users will be notified by 2nd Sep regarding their selection. Mi Community admin has not mentioned anything regarding Android Pie 9.0 Beta testing for Mi A2 but it will be safe to assume that the Beta testers will be amongst the first batch of users to get Android Pie 9.0 which is expected to be rolled out later this year.
