Weekly Roundup: Sony Xperia XA1, Xiaomi Mi VR Play 2, Airtel Internet TV, Micromax Evok Note and more


Sony Xperia XA1

This week Sony launched the Xperia XA1 smartphone, Xiaomi introduced Mi VR Play 2, Airtel launched Internet TV, a hybrid DTH and Android TV box, Micromax launched two new mid-range Evok series smartphones, and more that happened this week in our weekly roundup.

Sony Xperia XA1 colors

Sony Mobile this week launched Xperia XA1. It packs a 5-inch HD edge-to-edge display, is powered by an Octa-Core MediaTek Helio P20 processor, runs on Android 7.0 (Nougat), has a 23-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, Hybrid Auto-Focus and a 8-megapixel auto focus front-facing camera. It comes in White, Black and Pink colors in India, is priced at Rs. 19,990.

Micromax Evok Power

Micromax this week launched Evok Power and Evok Note, two new smartphones in the Evok series. The Micromax Evok Power comes with a 5-inch 720p display, while the Evok Note comes with a 5.5-inch 1080p display. Both the phones pack a 4000mAh battery and VoLTE support. The Evok Note comes with a fingerprint sensor on the front and the Evok Power has a fingerprint sensor on the back.

The Micromax Evok Power and Evok Note are priced at Rs. 6,999 and Rs. 9,499, respectively and is available exclusively on Flipkart.

Airtel Internet TV

Airel Digital TV this week launched Internet TV, which is an Android TV box that is developed by LG that also offers 500 satellite TV channels. It comes pre-loaded with Netflix, YouTube, Google Play Music, Google Play Games, Airtel Movies and more apps. Since there is Google Play, you can install more apps and games. It is also compatible with Dolby Surround Sound Audio.

It is available exclusively on Amazon.in in select cities and will be available via Airtel Digital TV touch points – retail stores,website, contact centers soon.

Xiaomi Mi VR Play 2

Xiaomi this week introduced Mi VR Play 2 its second-generation VR (Virtual Reality) headset. This has outer covering made of light-weight and soft fabric so the whole headset weighs just 183 grams. It can fit phones from 4.7 to 5.7 inches in size, similar to the predecessor. It looks like Google Daydream View but it doesn’t come with a wireless remote.

The Xiaomi Mi VR Play 2 comes in black color, is priced at 99 yuan (US$ 14.3 / Rs. 930 approx.) and will go on sale in China on April 19th.

Coolpad this week launched 3GB RAM version of the Cool 1 phone, compared to 4GB RAM version. Other specifications are same, including a 5.5-inch 1080p display, Octa-Core Snapdragon 652 SoC, Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) and a 8-megapixel front-facing camera. It is priced at Rs. 10,999 and is available exclusively on Amazon.in.

Acer launched Aspire VX 15, Predator 15 (G9-593), Predator  17 (G9-793) and Predator G1 Desktop in India exclusively for gamers. The Aspire VX 15 comes with enhanced cooling capabilities and NVIDIA GeForce GTX series 10 graphics card. Also, the Predator 15 (G9-593), 17 (G9-793) gets VR ready with NVIDIA Pascal graphics cards- GeForce GTX 1060 with 6GB VRAM.

The Aspire VX 15 is available online on Flipkart and through Acer retail stores at a price of Rs. 87,999. The Predator G1 Desktop is available starting from Rs. 1,19,999. The Acer Predator 15 (G9-593), 17 (G9-793) is available starting from Rs. 1,59,999.

Misfit Flare

Misfit this week introduced Flare, its latest budget fitness tracker, which is water resistant up to 50 meters. It automatically tracks steps taken, distance traveled, and calories burned. It can also track activities such as running, walking, yoga, swimming, soccer, basketball, tennis and more. It has a aluminum case, a capacitive touch sensor and a single LED light beneath a crystal face. Since this uses a replaceable coin cell, it lasts up to 4 months.

The Misfit Flare is priced at $59.99 (Rs. 3880 approx.) and is currently available in the U.S.

Nikon D7500

Nikon this week announced D7500 with DX-format 20.9-megapixel CMOS sensor, 4K UHD video recording and lighter, compact body. It has high-performance EXPEED 5 image-processing engine and has a native ISO range of 100 to 512001 that promises minimal noise in low-light scenarios. It also has built-in Bluetooth 4.1 and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g.

It starts at Rs. 96,950 (MRP) for body only and the D7500 with AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR lens costs Rs. 1,15,450 (MRP). It will be available in India from June, 2017.

ZOPO Color X 5.5

ZOPO this week launched ZOPO Color X 5.5 that packs a 5.5-inch HD display, quad-core MediaTek MT6737, Android 6.0 (Marshmallow), fingerprint sensor embedded into the home button that lets you unlock the phone in just 0.3 seconds. It has a metal back and has “One Button Access” feature that allows you to control all the features with the touch of the home button.

It comes in Charcoal Black, Royale Gold, Orchid Gold and Space Grey colors, is priced at Rs. 11,999 and will be available on all major offline retail showrooms from 20th April.
