TRAI releases Android app to report pesky telemarketing calls and SMS

TRAI DND Services

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released a new app called DND Services for Android devices. The app lets you register complaint to your service provider regarding Unsolicited Commercial Communication(UCC) / Telemarketing Calls or SMS if you receive them even after you have registered for DND (Do Not Disturb).

The app has a user-friendly interface and also lets you register or de-register from DND and also check registration status and status of complaints (Call/SMS). TRAI says that some features may require internet connection, but most of these are handled through SMS.  This is definitely a good move, but currently the app doesn’t working with dual SIM phones since it detects only primary SIM.

Regarding the app TRAI said:

The Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations (TCCCPR),2010″ on 1st December 2010 with the objective to provide an effective mechanism for curbing Unsolicited Commercial Communications. The regulations have been framed keeping in view. the interest of the customers and telemarketers while ensuring effective implementation.

TCCCP Regulations being complaint based regulation, there was a need to put in place a complaint mechanism which is easy to use by the consumer. Hence TRAI has developed a mobile App for easy registration of UCC complaints to the service providers.
