Evernote to pull the plug on Skitch for Android, iOS and Windows

Skitch 3.0 for iPhone and iPad

Evernote today announced that it will pull the plug on its standalone apps such as Skitch for Windows, Windows Touch, iOS, Android, Evernote Clearly and Evernote for Pebble starting today. However the Skitch for Mac app will continue to be available and supported. It acquired Skitch, a popular image annotation application back in 2011 and launched the app for Android, later it was launched for iPad and iPhone.

On December 17, 2015 Evernote will not make further updates to Skitch for Android, Windows Desktop, Windows Touch, iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. Customers who currently use any of these Skitch products can continue to do so. As of January 22, 2016, these apps will no longer be available for download.

Regarding the reason for discontinuing these apps, Evernote said:

We realize fans of Skitc, Evernote Clearly and Evernote for Pebble may be disappointed and want to let you know that we don’t make these decisions lightly. In keeping with our promise to focus on the core Evernote experience, we are moving away from supporting multiple standalone apps.

Before ending support for Skitch, we incorporated the most used features, including markup and image editing, into Evernote.

Before ending support for Evernote Clearly, we incorporated the most used features, including distraction-free viewing and web page clipping, into Web Clipper, one of our core Evernote products.

People with Pebble watches can find similar Evernote features with the Powernoter app.

Any Skitch images you’ve saved to Evernote before January 22 will always be available wherever you have Evernote. You can log in to Evernote Web or download Evernote to all your devices to view them, said the company.
