Chinese smartphone maker Vivo on Wednesday launched its flagship smartphone in India – the Vivo X5Pro. It was first launched in China in May, but that model featured an eye scanner technology. In India, the X5Pro boasts of same specifications as the Chinese variant, except that eye scanner. So what else is so great about the device? Here’s a quick look.

Starting with the design, the Vivo X5Pro seems inspired from iPhone 6, but yes there are quite a few elements that we felt differ from an iPhone. Front and back of the X5Pro is made of solid glass – 2.5D glass technology and Corning Gorilla Glass protection. It is also a slim smartphone, with a metal frame thickness of just 6.44mm. The handset measures 147.90×73.45×6.44mm and feels solid in hands.

Front of the device features a 5.2-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) Super AMOLED display, which is beautiful to look at. Colour reproduction, brightness levels, and viewing angles are very impressive. We’ll dig out more details of it soon in our full review.

Coming to the heart of Vivo X5Pro, the handset is powered by an octa-core 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 (MSM8939) (ARM Cortex A53 – 4×1.5GHz + 4×1.0GHz) processor with Adreno 405 GPU and 2GB of RAM. It runs Android 5.0.2 Lollipop based Funtouch 3.0 UI skin on top. We don’t know how the device will do in real life, especially when the Snapdragon 615 heating issue is well known.

Back of the X5Pro packs a 13-megapixel camera with f/2.0 aperture, phase detection autofocus (PDAF), and LED flash. The front features an 8-megapixel camera. The smartphone includes 16GB inbuilt storage which is further expandable via microSD card (up to 128GB). It is backed by a 2450mAh non-removable battery.

One big highlight of the smartphone is Vivo’s Hi-Fi Extreme audio technology. The X5Pro features a custom-made DAC AK4375 audio chip that is claimed to provide fine details of music over any headphones or up to 7.1 channel audio setup. What we could test in our limited time with the X5Pro, it definitely provides the best audio experience in a smartphone around same price bracket. Vivo also bundles a nice pair of in-ear headphones with the X5Pro.

Talking about the hardware, the right edge of X5Pro features volume rocker, power / lock key and hybrid Dual-SIM cards (Nano-SIM and Micro-SIM) slot. Both SIM can support 4G LTE (band 3 and band 40). Nano-SIM card slot can be used as microSD card (up to 128GB) expansion slot.

The 3.5mm audio jack sits on the top. The Micro-USB charging / data port sits at the bottom along with two speaker grills. The left edge doesn’t feature anything.

Customers who book the phone before 31st July stand a chance to win exciting gifts and one lucky winner every day will stand a chance to win an X5Pro, said the company.
