BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.1 update now rolling out


RIM has finally started rolling out the BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.1 update for the PlayBook users worldwide. This update would bring better Multitasking, Social integration, improved Android Runtime and more.

New features in BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.1

  • Updated BlackBerry Bridge lets you view, respond and compose new SMS messages when the PlayBook is connected to a BlackBerry smartphone over Bluetooth.
  • Portrait support for Email, Calendar, and Contacts
  • Improved Android Runtime that includes Multi-Window Applications, Camera Support and In-App Payments.
  • Print To Go lets you print documents from your PC to BlackBerry PlayBook tablet even if the PC and tablet are connected to different networks
  • Folders in the email account connected through ActiveSync can now be synchronized individually
  • Enroll with BlackBerry Mobile Fusion Over-the-air (OTA)
  • Full device encryption, including personal data

The BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.1 update is now rolling out for WiFi versions of the BlackBerry PlayBook and the update for the 4G LTE BlackBerry PlayBook is expected within the next month.

BlackBerry PlayBook users would get a notification for the update in the status ribbon. You could also update it manually in the Settings Menu, under Software Updates.
