Its Nice to see Nokia offering a firmware update now for a phone which was released in Dec 2008.

The update is not available on NSU in INDIA i suppose!! My phone still showing no update available!! and my current version is 30 not even 31!!! any suggestions as to why and how can we upgrade the firmware?

Check on the nokia site… by using ur product code… mine is 0573797… my also was at v30..Earlier both NSU and OTA were showing no update availabe..but the site said tht its available… so i reinstalled the new version of NSU and checked again and then it showed.. though OTA still doesn’t show a update..

am in bangalore, current version is 30.0.011 and dev code is 0575590..
please any one help me am not getting any updates on both nsu and ota, even i checked in “can i update” also its showing same version 30…

Mine is 0575590(product code ) rm 356..i too didn’t get any updates for this .. its still at v30.I called up nokia care at the number 41687884 . they said that V40 is not availabe for ur product code..Now what i dont understand is this is a set i purchased from nokia priority.. free sim .why is this not available to some product codes and not all..moreover i cant even update to v31 .., which i should be having..

any help?

Hi i am from Kerala. I updated the software From 30 to 40.
When i tried with OTA it showed no updates available.I Then after visiting nokia.com i entered the device code which is under the battery. It showed that firmware 40.0.00.05 is available for my device. So i downloaded the software updater and connected my phone via Usb and updated the firmware. And it worked for me. Now my phone feels fresh and kinetic scrolling is really good.

Friends, my Nokia 5800 purchased from Delhi shows the product code as 0575586. I see no update using Nokia software updater and ‘check for updates’ option in the phone.

Nokia India has not released firmware updates for last many months now and I am not too sure if we are even going to get this update

I plan to start a online petition campaign so that the top bosses at Nokia India listen to us.

Most of us has paid exorbitant amount for this phone and we should expect good customer support.

My version code is 0575586. NSU as well as OTA Update is not available for Version: 40.0.005. Nokia’s “can i update check” says my phone as update available only for Version: 30.0.011 not even for V.31. What is with Nokia to give all customers Same new update? When will it come to my device………. (-:

The V40 firmware is still not available for this product code. I guess you’ll have to wait a bit longer.

Hi i am from Kerala and i updated to the latest firware by Nsu. My previous version was 30. All of you who are facing problem in updating the firware visit nokia.com and enter your device code( under the battery)after that select your device and download the software updater(23 mb).Then connect your phone to pc via usb cable then u will be able to update.

the update doesnt depend on the location(for e.g. India), it depends on the product code of the mobile. Looks like some of us have to wait till the update trickles in to our mobiles.

As i said the update is specifically available via Nokia Software Updater via PC and is not available OTA (Over The Air).

After Update my set hang… no function on the contact bar, dialer and Call button ( Green Button )..others, so far still ok. I don know how i’m going to call out now………

You all have to use PC(NSU in XP or Vista) to update it is not available on the phone(OTA) itself. I also purchased my phone from DELHI FOR RS 19000. I have successfully updated the firmware to V40.

You must have Windows XP, Vista or MAC because NSU currently don’t run on windows 7.

IF u r still not able to update, there is a sure shot method. You have to visit Nokia Care and they will update ur software without any charge within 2-3 hours.

change your product code to whichever product code has v 40 available, like 0559673 (india apac2 red)
update normally through NSU, you’ll get the firmware update, restart the phone once more and change your product code back to original, so that you wont void your warranty

The latest firmware v40.0.005 for nokia 5800 xpress music is available in india through Nokia Software Updater(NSU). I have just today updated my nokia 5800XM by NSU using my PC. Just log on http://www.nokia.com into PC or laptop and download latest version v1.8.10en of nokia phone sotware updater which is about 23.6 MB in file size. Then open it, it will search automtically the latest version ,

Same Here…same product code and not even v31..this is very bad…are we not going to get this v40 update? first of all we got this phone when it was released…for 19k…now they made it 13.5k and it pinches…on top of it they are giving updates to these people only and not us early adopters…this is really bad.. Hi,I have just upgraded the firmware to the latest one and got some new cool features but there is 1 problem – If the phone is locked by security key guard or manual and an incoming cals comes in, I get option on screen to unlock / answer. but when pressed the options on screen, the call does not get through. I have to use the green button on the phone to take the call or red to reject the call. Also when a timer / alarm is activated, I can not snooze / stop the same with the on screen touch buttons. Do I have to do any settings for the same? Does anyone knows how to get this working? Thanks in advance

Hi Niks you have to slide the option when prompted. For eg when you get an incoming call and your keypad is lock just slide your finger from left to right. This also applies in the case of alarm snoozing or stop.

And yes, the new update is nice though I dislike the huge icons for contacts in ‘Contacts’ bar.. N sometimes the double tap…

Checked the call prob u r talking about.. I don’t see any problem.. If your phone is locked(with/without code), you get a simple unlock/answer option, touch screen works.. no prob…

I couldnt get my firware updated to the latest V40…by both the ways…i calld up nokia care hyderabad and when i asked them about the latest V40 upgrade for my nokia 5800 .they said that they have not got any official notice from Nokia saying that the leatest fiirware has released in India….Im stuck what can i do??

Friends do one thing…go to NCC and ask for V30 to V31 update they will update it within an hour. After that u will be able to find V40 on nokia software updater and can update it by urself….i did mine too..Tc.

the stupid firmware had some bug.
once the keypad is locked, try to charge your phone by plugging in the charger.
The screen will light up and it will NEVER turn off unless you unlock the keypad.

this is wasting batery.

You DON’T need to touch but SWIPE in the direction Being indicated by the COLOR flow!! SWIPE– MOVE YOUR FINGERs in that direction!!

iPhone, iTouch etc has this swipe feature to unlock phone….

and it comfirms that V40 is available for this device. I’ve download NSU 1.8.10en. When i connect my phone and click start it shows my Nokia’s current version V30 and prompts that no update is available.

Stuck in the same boat as you are!! Even my 5800′s product code is 0575590. On sending an email Nokia, they reverted back saying the latest firmware update for this product code is v31.0.101. Tried to update both ways, OTA and NSU, no luck. Still says v30.0.011 is the latest available firmware. Pisses me off to no end!

Anyhow, i intend to head over to Nokia Care by this weekend and see if they can help me get the v40 firmware without voiding the warranty.

@ all: This is a good method to get the updated firmware, but be warned, there are chances that if this is not done properly, the phone will be bricked!

I bought a Nokia 5800 in Singapore and I am stuck to the v21.0.0.25!! There are no updates available on OTA nor on NSU! Really frustrating to note that there is a v40 already… and am not sure when my phone would update its firmware. Wondering what would I do??!!

hey guys , this morning i heard about the v40, so i updated my fone to v 31.0.101 finking to re update it once its over bt unfortunately i couldnt reciev the v40 for my mobile.
i was sad,zen i came back made some reserch n found this website and found how to change ur porduct code . so i followed it step by step and i was able to change my product code. i used the new product code 0559673 in order to get the latest update and finaly it WORKED… right now i am updating my phone to v40.. enjoy u too. donr forget to set ur product code to the one written on the bak of the phone in order not to void ur waranty..

Today I updated my 5800XM to V40 and it is working fine..

I had the Product Code 0575590 and was repeatedly getting the
same update that V30 is the latest version for my phone.
However I could not update my code as advised in ipmart-forum.

I then googled and tried Nemesis Software Suite as explained in
http://www.djkaty.com/nokia-changeproductcode and it just worked perfect.
I used the code 0559673 and updated to V40 thru Nokia Software Updater..
Then used Nemesis Software Suite again to revert to my original Product Code
And now enjoying V40 on my 5800XM..

I just got my Nokia 5800′s (product code: 0575590) firmware updated from v30.0.011 to the latest v40.0.005 firmware at Nokia Care. Firmware update wasn’t available for my phone OTA or via the NSU.

I’d recommend this to people who cannot update their phones via OTA or NSU to contact your nearest Nokia Care. It took about an hour or so. Backup all the contents on your phone memory (memory card content need not be backed up as they take only the handset minus the battery, SIM, memory card) before you take your phone for the update.

@nawaz : Try changing the theme, set it to basic “sounds” theme.
If that doesn’t work out, put a few contacts that has only one number in them and see if it works ( as against contacts having multiple numbers )
I dont know if it works, but just saying..

i recently updated my 5800 to v40. the kinetic scrolling is great but now i just cannot scroll in the merriam webster medical dictionary. any suggestions please…. does anybody know any medical dictionary for v40?

I updated the firmware to 4.05 nearly two weeks ago. My 5800 worked more responsively and i enjoyed the kinetic scrolling. But all this suddenly came to an end yesterday. I mean the phone is working but a strange problem is killing me now. When i lock the keypad with the slider and unlock it the display gets flickered. It shows strange coloured vertical lines and i cant see anything. First it was only for a short period and when i slided the keypad lock again it came back to normal. But now its really worse. I have to swich of the phone and turn it on again to get the display back. But it works for only one time. Again the same problem will come. Its really worse that now i am not even able to know who is calling me as i only see the strange coloured vertical lines. I tried every possible ways to solve this issue.Removed the memory card,Uninstalled all the applications,Restored the phone settings,Changed my wallpaper. But nothing happened. I even reinstalled the firmware and the its the same. I am really dissappointed because i really took care of this set. I have never dropped it,No water spill,I didnt install any untrusted softwares or themes. I only installed apps from nokias own ovistore. Now i am planning to give it to the service center but dont know waht will happen? My previous service experiences with the nokia was really bad. Once i gave my N73 for the dpad button problem and they only managed to give my phone back after 20 days . I dont have a sparephone and it really hurts me that i wont be able to use the phone for atleast two weeks. Any support guys? Did anyone have the same problem? And sorry for this long post.But try to understand me.And this may my last nokia as all the previous nokia mobiles i used gave me lot of trouble and this one also not different.

I had this problem and so did many others.. Take it to a Nokia Care. They’ll fix it in a matter of an hour. That’s what i did and my phone is perfectly fine now.

With love from Nairobi, Kenya, East Africa. Did the OTA update n the phone is great. Kinetic scrolling, full qwerty keypand in landscape. Next update should allow for number display options e.g last name first name, name n number etc as is the case with the lesser nokias.

People.. there will be no firmware update for this product code (0575590). Change the product code and then update the firmware. No other option.

Yesterday I went to nokiacare. After a long waiting of 3 hours they informed me that i will get my 5800 back after two days. I was really surprised at that. Because i expected a waiting of minimum two weeks. And i was shocked when i saw 4 other people came with their 5800 and 3 of them had the same problem of mine.Anyways just hope that i will get my phone back within 2 days.

Today i called nokia care and as i expected the phone was not repaired and here comes the good news!?” sir we currently have no display at stock, so please wait for one week”. So if they said one week i guess its gonna take 2 weeks. I am keen on selling this nokias experiment as soon as i get it back. But the problem is that they have launched the 5230 at a price of 8000 rupees. Now even if i want to sell my phone at 7000 rupees it will be very difficult. And the most irritating thing is what will i tell to my parents for sellin this. I made a huge argue with my parents for buying this phone and finally they agreed. They gave me their hard earned 14000 rs to me and if i sell my phone just for half the amount WTF.The 5230 comes without a 3.2 mp camera and other little specs but that no makes no difference. the shocking truth is that the 2 mp camera without flash takes more better pics than the 5800.Today my friend bought one and i tested it. the phone is identical to the 5800 in every aspects. Sound quality is little low as it has only one speaker. He didnt get the 8 GB memorycard,the headphone which they claim is worth of 2250 rs but actually only 1200 rs worth,usb cable and the pc suite disc.But he managed to get all these stuff at 2400 rs. So well done Nokia for making me a complete idiot. But as someone said you can fool some one for eveytime, you can fool everyone for some time, But you cant fool everybody everytime.

I also have a Nokia 5800 XM, with Code: 0575590. I tried to change the Code to 0559673 using NSS, in order to update my phone to the latest v40.x.xxx. But I followed the step by step instructions. But it comes with an error!!! Now I rescaned my phone, but error comes saying “Reading values…..Error!”

Is the code changed to 0559673 or nothing changed?

After restarting my phone and PC, NSS now cannot recognise my phone, the IMEI and all other informations are not showed up by NSS. but my phone is working perfectly well. No change either.

I really want the v40.0.005 update, please help me. Will nokia care can help me to get out of this problem? is my warranty void?

This firmware is definitely available in India. I have just update the same couple of hours back from an Authorised ASC. Please dont waste time in checking for Over the Air or NSU. Simply walk at ASC and be happy to get the new version.. I am so happy with the new version packed with Kinetic Scrolling and new contacts bar. Only missing thing is KS in application menu and browser. Hope this could be fixed in later versions..

Ans. Using NSS(http://www.b-phreaks.co.uk/index.php?main_page=page_2)..I got an error while reading previous product code and writing new code but it got resolved once I installed older version of PC Suite….So In Short..

1..Change your product code using NSS and..
2..Upgrade your software using Nokia Software Updater(NSA)

i want to know till when v40 will be released for product code :- 0575378..its given that only v30 is available for this code and m having v31 for my phone…so i just want to know whether i can upgrade it to v40.?

Yes Tushar…u cn surely do so..bt you’ll need to change your product code using NSS first.

Which Service centre in Delhi…as i tried with Laxmi Nagar they don’t have it for this product code…pls hlp..

Had the same problem of updating to v40… only solution apart from changing product code is to go to Nokia Care… cool update.. go get it!! takes less than 1 hour…

Are you sure Nokia will update it to V40.00.005 even if the software updater shows Update not available.?

I have updated my 5800 firmware to 40.0.005 by nokia care
but after that i am facing some issue like full qwatry keyboard is not available. contacts from memory card are not shown.
Nokia care says it is not recommended to upgrade the new firmware. I will have to wait for new release.
Its very panic, i lost my contact etc.
Can u suggest me the latest version.

All those who are in India (Delhi) and who are unable to update their phones to v40 and are stuck to v30 or 31 (mostly with Product Codes 0575590), Just go to your nearest Nokia Care Center and get ur phone updated to the latest version IRRESPECTIVE OF THE PRODUCT CODE your phone will be updated to v40. I got it done from the CP Nokia Care Branch, Delhi free of cost!!!

Please check with nokia before upgrading your framwork, because It does not support full qwarty keyboard. I have upgraded in January but facing this problem and nokia is not concern to provide solution. Without full qwarty keyboard its very tough to type anything…

Yes, It has full touch qwarty keyboard but with this framwork v40.0.005 you will miss this tool.

try to tilt your phone bcoz the full qwerty keyboard is in landscape mode..

I updated my nokia xm to v_40. And it hanges frequently. Specially the songs which i had downloaded when i was using the previous software version. I have to restart it freuently.
It is really a pain, since i cannot play those songs at all !!!!

I am waiting for a new update and hopeful this is fixed in it.

Once Try to Format Your 5800 .(First BackUp your settings,.. and after formatting restore your backup.)Hope this solves you problem.And Try to Keep 2GB empty memory in your memory card if you are using 8GB or more

it dosnt have a motion sensor qwerty keypad ….it has a kinetic scrooling in it … it has also a rooling friends scrooler at home screen like nokia 5230 and nokia 5530 …
