It looks like WhatsApp is gearing up to foray into mobile payments. The Facebook owned instant messaging app is planning to launch a peer-to-peer payment system in India that is likely to be powered by the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), according to a latest report from The Ken.

Paytm to levy 2% fee for wallet topup using credit cards; UPI and IMPS payment options added

Paytm has announced that it will now levy 2 percent fee for adding money to your wallet using credit card. Earlier there was zero percent fee for recharging your wallet using credit card. There will be no fee for transferring money to the Paytm wallet using debit card or net banking. BHIM app hits 3 million downloads and enables 500,000 transactions

After being the top free Android app in the Google Play Store, the BHIM UPI-based payments app has now crossed 3 million downloads, according to Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant. He revealed the details via his official Twitter account.

BHIM app for UPI-based payments ranked top on the Google Play Store

In an attempt to push digital payment throughout the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched an app named as ‘BHIM (Bharat Interface for Money)’ on Google Play Store, that aims to enable faster, easier and secure online payment through a smartphone. Developed by National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI), BHIM app has overtook all other popular apps including Whatsapp, Facebook, MyJio and topped Google Play Store.
