Google, given the success it has seen with the Android Things and its partners in terms of smart speakers, smart displays, is now refocusing Android Things as a platform for OEM partners to build devices in those categories moving forward. Google today has announced the release of Android Things 1.0 after launching it to the developers at the end of 2016. It is also announcing the  System-on-Modules (SoMs) based on the NXP i.MX8M, Qualcomm SDA212, Qualcomm SDA624, and MediaTek MT8516 hardware platforms. Google Android Things OS is a lightweight version of Android, designed to run on the Internet of Things devices. It received its first developer preview update back in 2016 and has been getting the update since then. Android Things will power the upcoming Google Assistant smart displays which were first showcased at the CES 2018.
