UIDAI mandates new facial recognition for all Aadhaar authentications

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) today has announced its plans and measures to mandate facial recognition by taking on-the-spot live pictures for every authentication that requires Aadhaar. The facial recognition will join as an additional authentication method which currently relies on fingerprints or iris (eye) scans. Government confirms Aadhaar card not mandatory to get mobile SIMs

The Center has announced that Aadhaar card is no longer mandatory for getting a mobile SIM, meaning that telecom operators can now accept another form of verification like driving license, passport, and voter ID card. Ola employee arrested for stealing Aadhaar KYC data

Abhinav Srivastav, an IIT-Kharagpur graduate, has been arrested by the Bengaluru city police on the charge of stealing Aadhaar data. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has registered a case against the 31-year old Ola employee who is also the founder of Qarth Technologies that was acquired by Ola.

Aadhaar integration goes live on the Skype Lite app

Earlier this year in February, Microsoft had launched Skype Lite app which is aimed at low end Android devices. The company had also announced that it will come with Aadhaar integration that will be rolled out in second half of 2017. Now, the Aadhaar integration is available on the Skype Lite app.

Aadhaar mandatory for mobile connections, re-verification process to be completed within a year

After making Aadhaar compulsory for filing income tax returns and applying for PAN, the government has announced that Aadhaar mandatory for mobile phone connections, following an order of the Supreme Court last month. The Department of Telecom has announced that all telecom operators will have re-verify all existing mobile subscribers (prepaid and postpaid) through Aadhaar based E-KYC process within a year.
