Samsung’s long-rumored tri-fold smartphone was absent from the July 2025 Galaxy Unpacked event, where the company introduced the Galaxy Z Fold7, Z Flip7, and Z Flip7 FE. Though still under development, the tri-fold phone—previously seen in animation leaks—seems to be nearing its release.
Name ‘Galaxy Z Trifold’ Surfaces via Trademark Filing
GalaxyClub reported that Samsung applied for the “Galaxy Z Trifold” trademark in South Korea on July 15, 2025. The report cautioned that although the name aligns with the Galaxy Z series, it may change, since Samsung often files multiple potential names and final branding can vary by market.
In a recent statement, TM Roh, Head of Samsung Mobile, confirmed that the tri-fold phone would launch before the end of 2025, adding that the name is still under consideration as development continues.

Earlier naming options included Galaxy G Fold, referring to the G-shaped folding design shown at CES 2022 , yearGalaxy Z Fold Ultra, which would extend the Fold line with a more advanced variant.
Device Details and Launch Timeline
Referred to internally as Q7M, the tri-fold phone carries the model number SM-F968N. Development is progressing, and it is expected to launch in limited quantities, likely with a high price tag due to its complexity. The phone is seen as an early showcase model rather than a mainstream release.
While Samsung has confirmed a 2025 launch, leaker Ice Universe reports a more specific timeline, claiming the device could launch in October 2025. He also mentioned that HUAWEI, which has already released its first tri-fold device, is preparing to unveil its second tri-fold phone in September 2025.
More details are likely to emerge as the device moves closer to completion and the launch date approaches.
