Samsung is preparing to reveal its next generation of foldables at Galaxy Unpacked next week. Along with the expected Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, and Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, rumors also point to a tri-fold foldable phone, possibly named the Galaxy G Fold.
Thanks to animations discovered in the latest One UI 8 build, shared by Android Authority, we now have an early look at this device—internally referred to as “Multifold 7.” The software includes both light and dark-themed animations, with the dark version offering a clearer view of the device layout.
Key Design Elements
The tri-panel rear design includes:
- Left panel: Comes with three cameras in a style seen on current Z Fold devices.
- Middle panel: A cover display featuring a front camera for use in the folded state.
- Right panel: Appears to be bezel-less but is likely a blank rear panel—not a functional screen.
G-Shaped Folding Mechanism
Unlike HUAWEI’s Mate XT with its S-shaped fold (one hinge inward, one outward), Samsung’s design uses two inward-folding hinges, forming a G-shaped fold. These hinges are unequal in size to ensure the inner display folds flat without stress—sandwiching the blank panel between them for protection.
A warning animation also advises against folding the device with the camera panel first, as doing so may cause damage due to the hinge structure. The side frame includes a recessed section, likely housing the volume rocker and power button.
Naming and Launch Uncertainty
While widely referred to as a “tri-fold” or “triple-screen” foldable, the device technically includes two displays and two hinges. The internal name “Multifold” may more accurately reflect the design.
Despite a teaser at the last Galaxy Unpacked, Samsung still hasn’t officially confirmed this tri-fold device. These animations may simply reflect an internal test build, meaning the final design—or even its public release—could change or be postponed.
