You might know that FoneArena was in the capital to meet the Digital Designers behind Nokia phones. Nokia India had invited us to Nokia Digital Design 2009 at The Oberoi , New Delhi.  Everyone knows Nokia’s tagline is Connecting People.   The Digital Designers behind a phone play a major role in making sure phones  actually help people connect with each other effectively.

Here is the inside story about Nokia’s Digital Design

First on stage was Nikki who gave us an overview of Nokia’s Digital Design Strategy
nikki-bartonNikki BartonHead of Digital Design – Nikki is heavily influenced by her design and cultural experiences. With 20 years of work in digital interaction worldwide, her experiences are fairly diversified by now. That said, she believes that her training and education has heavily influenced her work throughout her life. She considers solid, good design training as a real advantage. For Nikki, design and user experience are inextricably linked and should not be thought of as separate exercises. She gave us an overview about Nokia’s Digital Design Team.

  • India is very important to Nokia due to its diverse nature.
  • Nokia has 320 designers from a diverse background
  • It has 4 major design centers – Beijing,Helsinki,London , LA
  • Nokia embraces Human Technology and also spends a lot of time in countries where it is launching the product to understand the market and the needs of the local user base.
  • Focus is on letting users Discover, Personalize and Customize
  • Focus is on discovering new ways of interaction like Touch
  • Future phones might have even projectors to overcome limitations of  mobile screens.

While I expected the event to be a boring evening just watching some presentations – it turned out to be one of the most enjoyable and interesting events in recent times.
While Nokia aims to Connect People, its also doing a great job Connecting Bloggers. I had a chance to interact face to face with folks I know mostly in the interwebs.  Its great to see Nokia taking inputs from Bloggers and we would like to thank them for providing a chance to interact with the Digital Design Team.

A big Thank You to Nikki, Rob, Julianna and Younghee for sharing the inside story

This story will continue on FoneArena , come back for another post about the event.
