Motorola releases open source kernel files for the Moto G

motog-hands-on

Motorola released the Moto G, the company’s latest budget phone last month, that would launch in India in January 2014. The company has released the Android 4.3 kernel files for the Moto G. We have already seen companies releasing kernel sources for their high-end device, but Motorola has released the open source kernel files for their budget smartphone.

Even though the source code is not useful for normal users, it would be helpful for Android developers and tinkerers worldwide who would like to create custom software builds.

Even though the OS is pretty much stock Android, the Moto G is not likely to get the Android experience launcher in the Android 4.4 update, since the Moto X did not get the feature in the latest KitKat update. Since the Kernel source for the phone is out now, we might get new custom ROMs for the phone soon, bringing new features.

You can download the kernel source code for the Moto G over at SourceForge.
