Samsung is working on 20-megapixel camera modules for the second half of the 2014, according to a report from ET News in Korea. Samsung Galaxy S5 is rumored to feature a 16-megapixel camera with ISOCELL sensor, but the report says that it would not feature OIS since Samsung needs at least 50 million OIS modules to implement OIS in the Galaxy S5’s camera module.

The 20-megapixel camera module for its next-generation smartphone would use a new CMOS image sensor, and the company has partnered with Sony to supply the sensor, ETNews reveals . Samsung considered to introduce OIS for the Galaxy Note 3’s 13-megapixel camera, but it has postponed it for the second half of next year.  But the 20MP sensor might feature OIS since it is expected in the second half of 2014. Samsung would use a 16-mega pixel camera module for 25% of its smartphones in 2014, revels the report. Samsung already uses a 16-megapixel sensor in the Galaxy S4 Zoom.

Lack of OIS in the Galaxy S5’s camera would be disappointing for Samsung fans, but the Note 4 which is expected in the second half of 2014 might feature a 20MP camera with OIS.
