Apple iPhone Duo Hands On – Premium Foldable Experience

I recently had the chance to spend some time with the upcoming Apple iPhone Duo and here are my thoughts after using the first ever foldable device from Apple. The foldable phone market is all set to get a big boost thanks to Apple’s entry.

Once unfolded, you are greeted by a 7.6inch inner OLED display with a nano-texture (matte) finish.

The 5.4 inch outer screen is great for one handed use. The frame is flat on the left and has rounded corners on the right.  The device comes in two colours – Night Sky, Star White and I personally liked the Star White. The design reminds one of the iPhone X and the iPhone Air.

Apple has customized iOS 27 for the iPhone Duo and the transition of apps from the outer display to the inner display is neatly done for supported apps. More apps are expected to offer support for the iPhone Duo closer to the release date.

On the back you find the 48MP Dual Fusion camera setup along with an LED flash.

Apple has done something interesting for the under-display camera. The camera is not visible until it is in use.

In the portrait orientation, the iPhone Duo feels like a mini tablet and is great for reading and browsing.

One neat feature is the new unified icon to display WiFi, battery and network strength on the outer screen. The detailed info is available in the control center.

The iPhone Duo is incredibly thin at 5.2mm when open and 11.3mm thick when folded.

The device weighs 250 grams and you don’t feel the weight when the device is unfolded. You only really feel it when using the device with one hand, but overall the weight distribution is fine.

An interesting addition is Stylus support. The iPhone Duo supports the Apple Pencil on both screens.

Apple is not the first to come up with a foldable phone. Samsung has had the Fold series since 2019. Almost every phone manufacturer has a Foldable right now in their product portfolio. However, for a first-generation product, the iPhone Duo looks remarkably refined to take on the competition. The iPhone Duo goes on sale on October 23rd and pre-orders start on October 16th. Pricing starts at $1999+taxes in the US and INR 2,99,999 for the base 256GB model.
