Skyscanner integrates with ChatGPT for conversational flight search in India

Global travel platform Skyscanner has announced the launch of its dedicated application within the ChatGPT ecosystem. This integration allows travelers in India to search for and identify optimal flight options and pricing directly through a natural language interface.

How the Integration Works

The integration aims to make trip planning mimic a natural conversation, providing real-time flight data upon request. To utilize the service, travelers use the following process:

  • Installation: Users access and install the Skyscanner App via the ChatGPT App Store.
  • Conversational Prompts: Users can initiate a search using simple, natural language commands. For example, typing “@skyscanner find me the cheapest flight to Japan in August” triggers the search.
  • Visual Results: The application retrieves global flight options from Skyscanner’s database and displays them visually within the chat interface.

Once initial results are generated, users can continue to use the chat function to compare flight options and prices or adjust specific parameters such as travel dates or preferred airports. This system combines Skyscanner’s established search logic and price transparency—currently utilized by approximately 160 million travelers monthly—with the intuitive flow of a conversational AI.

Broader AI Implementation and the ‘Football Flight Finder’

Beyond the ChatGPT application, Skyscanner is deploying artificial intelligence across other facets of the travel planning process. The primary objective of these broader AI initiatives is to reduce friction during the search phase and enhance user confidence prior to booking.

As part of this expansion, the company has introduced an AI-powered ‘Football Flight Finder’ on its primary website. Designed to assist sports fans in organizing travel for major football tournaments, the tool offers the following capabilities:

  • Multi-City Simplification: It streamlines complex, multi-city travel itineraries from the opening matches through the finals.
  • Value Optimization: The system highlights the most cost-effective routes for attendees.
  • Dynamic Fare Tracking: It tracks fare fluctuations automatically as tournament fixtures are released, ensuring travelers can monitor pricing trends throughout the event.

Regarding this, Piero Sierra, Skyscanner’s Chief AI officer, who is leading Skyscanner’s AI strategy for travel, said:

We’ve been at the forefront of cutting-edge flight search, ensuring that travellers have all the right tools to reduce friction and give them more confidence in finding the right flight for them. Travellers can now access the Skyscanner app in ChatGPT to search for the best options and flight prices for their trip.

We’ll continue evolving travel search beyond form-fills toward dynamic, answer-led experiences. We’ll scale natural language search with explainability, and expand agentic scenarios only where trust and economics work. Success in AI will be defined by better decisions and earned traveller trust.
