Historically, apart from iPad Pro models, Apple has used LCD displays, a.k.a. Retina True Tone displays in Apple terms, for its other iPad models like Air, Mini, and more. It looks like that’s going to change, with Korean sources citing that Apple has chosen Samsung to supply OLED screens for 2027 iPad Air models.
Last year, Mark Gurman, a reputable Apple tipster, also stated that Apple is going all in with OLED screens for its MacBook Air, iPad Air, and iPad mini lineups. This is part of Apple’s broader plan to expand OLED technology across its product lineup.
Apple iPad Air 2027 Models with Samsung OLED screens

Apple is said to have chosen Samsung displays for iPad Air 2027 models, with mass production expected to begin at the end of this year or starting in 2027.
Since these are Air models, Apple is expected to go with OLED featuring a single-stack light-emitting layer, unlike tandem OLED displays on Pro models, and low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) technology.
Following the company’s effort to convert its mobile devices with OLED screens, we can expect the iPad mini (8.5 inches) and MacBook Pro (14, 16 inches), which will be launching later this year, to come with OLED screens.
The iPad Air model is expected to be released in the first half of 2027, with the expected month being March 2027, following a similar timeline to the 2026 iPad Air models with the M4 chip.
