Samsung SmartThings Family Care launched in India

Samsung has announced the enhancement of its smart home ecosystem with the introduction of the SmartThings Family Care feature in India. Designed to integrate directly with the Samsung SmartThings platform and compatible Bespoke AI home appliances, the update aims to simplify household management and assist families in monitoring the well-being of relatives living independently.

Core Features and Functionality

The SmartThings Family Care system operates by connecting the central SmartThings app with various Bespoke AI home appliances, such as refrigerators and washing machines. By monitoring these connected devices, the system learns and recognizes routine appliance usage patterns.

Key capabilities of the newly enhanced feature include:

  • Activity Notifications: Alerts triggered by standard or abnormal appliance usage.
  • Routine Reminders: Automated prompts for daily necessities, such as medication schedules and upcoming appointments.
  • Location-Based Alerts: Notifications designed to keep designated family members informed of general movements or check-ins.
  • Shared Access: Seamless sharing of device controls and monitoring capabilities among approved family members via the SmartThings application.
Alignment with the Indian Market

The introduction of this feature in India aligns with the country’s strong cultural emphasis on inter-generational care, respecting elders, and supporting extended family networks.

SmartThings Family Care is positioned as a practical tool for individuals who live away from their hometowns or aging parents. By creating a connected support network, the feature provides a non-intrusive method for users to stay updated on the daily routines, comfort, and safety of elderly parents or relatives who are living independently.

Broader Smart Home Ecosystem

The rollout of SmartThings Family Care in India is part of Samsung’s ongoing strategy to expand the capabilities of its Bespoke AI home appliance portfolio. By utilizing everyday appliances as intelligent monitoring tools, Samsung is working toward a broader vision of building intelligent, connected homes that prioritize both convenience and energy efficiency.

The SmartThings Family Care service is currently available in more than 200 countries worldwide, reflecting a global push toward integrated, AI-driven home management solutions.
