HUAWEI Mate X7 with 8″ foldable and 6.49″ quad-curved outer 120Hz LTPO displays, IP58 + IP59 ratings announced

HUAWEI just introduced the Mate X7, the company’s latest foldable smartphone in China, as it had promised along with the Mate 80 series as the successor to last year’s Mate X6. The phone packs an 8-inch foldable screen with a peak brightness of 2500nit, and the outer 6.49-inch has a peak brightness of 3000 nits, both with 1-120Hz LTPO panel with 1440Hz high-frequency PWM dimming.

The phone comes in five colors: Obsidian Black, Cloud Brocade Blue, Cloud Brocade White, Cosmic Red, and Phantom Purple. It is the first phone to incorporate the intangible cultural heritage of Yun Brocade craftsmanship. The phone weighs 235g, has a thickness of 4.5mm when unfolded, and a thickness of 9.5mm when folded. It has IP58 and IP59 levels of splash, water, and dust resistance.

The Mate X7 features the second-generation Red Maple Imaging system, achieving miniaturization of the camera module for the first time and claiming to “achieve flagship imaging capabilities on a foldable screen.” The phone boasts a 50MP variable aperture main camera + 3.5x optical telephoto periscope lens, and a 40MP ultra-wide-angle camera + second-generation Red Maple primary color camera.

The Mate X7 Collector’s Edition claims that its 1/1.28-inch main camera has 100% more light intake than the Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max, and its F2.2 periscope telephoto lens has 127% more light intake than the Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max. The Collector’s Edition also supports Tiantong satellite communication and Beidou satellite messaging, while the standard version supports Beidou satellite messaging.

The device is equipped with a 5600mAh battery and supports 66W wired fast charging + 50W wireless fast charging; the overall performance is improved by more than 42%. The Mate X7 also supports emergency communication without network access and an outdoor exploration mode with a 10-day extreme battery life.
