Display, Hardware and Design

The phone comes with a 6.9-inch Full HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex display with a resolution of 2520 x 1080 pixels at about 397PPI, aspect ratio of 21:9. The display is bright, thanks to 2600 nits peak brightness, same as the predecessor. It offers good color reproduction and the sunlight legibility is good as well. The screen is protected by UTG glass. Even with a foldable screen, the crease is hardly visible, thanks to the enhanced Flex Hinge.

It has a 120Hz refresh rate screen that offers a fluid user experience with smoother animations, scrolling and gaming. According to Samsung, it has 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rate.  The phone doesn’t have DC dimming or low brightness anti-flicker mode that is present in some AMOLED screen phones in the price range. I didn’t notice any screen flicker issues in low brightness on the phone.

The phone has a 10MP front camera on the inside. There is an earpiece on the top edge which also works as a secondary speaker.

The Galaxy Z Flip7 measures 6.5 mm thick when open and 13.7 mm when closed, making it 0.4mm slimmer when open and 1.2mm when folded. All this is possible with a circuit board designed with ultra-high density to reduce wasted internal space, and a redesigned battery that adds 300 mAh capacity while becoming thinner.

The Z Flip7 now has an edge-to-edge Infinity Cover Display that removes the black notch and shrinks the bezel from 3.94 mm to just 1.25 mm—a 68% reduction—making it the slimmest bezel on any foldable screen globally.

The Galaxy Z Flip7’s camera was completely reengineered with a compact actuator to enable quick autofocus and high-quality photos within a slimmer design, said the company.

This gets a bigger 4.1-inch (1048 x 948 pixels) Super AMOLED display, 344PPI and finally 120Hz refresh rate. This has Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection. It boasts 2,600 nits of peak brightness, same as the predecessor.

Since the display is large, it can let you view several notifications and lets you use the display as a camera viewfinder. There are several widgets such as calendar, weather, alarm, Health, stocks, SmartThings, Calls, Quick contacts, Stopwatch, Timer, Recorder, and shortcut to apps It also enables quick replies to messages in apps, and you can run full WhatsApp and YouTube on the screen. Even though you can’t run all the apps natively, you can use Good Lock app and its MultiStar module to run them.

The power button with the embedded fingerprint scanner, and the volume rockers are on the right, the SIM slot is present on the left, the primary microphone, USB Type-C port, and the loudspeaker grill are on the bottom, and the secondary microphone is on the top. It has an Armor Aluminum frame and hinge cover and with IP48 ratings for dust and water resistance and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection on the Flex Window and back cover. It weighs 188 grams, almost the same as the same as the Z Flip6.

In addition to the Blue Shadow colour variant that we have, the phone also comes in Mint, and Silver Shadow colours.

Camera

  • 50MP Wide (1/1.57″ ISOCELL GN3, f/1.8, 1.0µm – 2.0µm, OIS)
  • 12MP Ultra-Wide (1/3.2″ ISOCELL 3LU, f/2.2, 123° 1.12 μm)
  • 10MP front camera (1/3.0″ ISOCELL 3J1, f/2.2 aperture)

The phone has the familiar dual camera set up as the Z Flip6. It also has AR stickers, scene optimizer, portrait video, director’s view, hyperlapse and more modes. You can use the outer screen to capture images, and there is also a cover screen preview option.

Coming to the image quality, daylight shots with the 50MP camera are good, and the camera captures a good amount of detail, creates well exposed photos with good dynamic range and detailing, and dynamic range can further be improved enabling HDR mode from the settings, which automatically turns on HDR when needed.  There is digital zoom up to 10x. Autofocus speeds are fast and accurate. Ultra-wide shots from the 12MP camera are good in daylight. Edge detection is good in portraits as usual.

Low-light performance is good, which can be improved further with Night mode that offers more details. Images with flash is good and is not overpowering. The 10MP front camera on the inside is decent enough for video calls and other things, but the 50MP outer camera is recommended for taking selfies.

Check out the camera samples.

The Z Flip7 offers 4K UHD video recording at 60 fps front and rear cameras, portrait 1080p video at 30 fps, Super Slo-mo 1080p video support at 240 fps and Hyperlapse 4K video support at 30 fps.

Software, UI and Apps

Coming to the software, the phone runs on Android 16 with July 2025 Android security patch. On the top of Android 16, it has the latest Samsung One UI 8, making it one of the first phones to run it out of the box.  Similar to other flagships, Samsung has confirmed 7 OS updates and 7 years of security updates for the Z Flip7.

There are Galaxy AI tools for communication, productivity, and creativity have been expanded. It still has features like Call Transcript, Writing Assist, and Drawing Assist to offer enhanced functionality and ease of use. With One UI 8 Now Bar and Now Brief that were introduced with the One UI 7 will deliver customized insights and suggestions via curated AI information, supporting task management and daily routines.

This also offers users control over data processing, with options to keep data on-device, as many Galaxy AI features will utilize a hybrid of on-device and cloud-based AI processing. It also brings several features aimed at enhancing everyday convenience. Auracast, a broadcast audio technology based on Bluetooth LE Audio, will enable audio connections via QR code scanning and sharing.

The Reminder app has redesigned UX intended to be intuitive, especially for tasks like travel planning. File sharing is more streamlined with an enhanced Quick Share feature. A single tap of the Quick Share button in the Quick settings panel will allow for sending and receiving files.

The Device maintenance option lets you manage your device’s battery life, storage, RAM usage, and security all in one place. It comes in 256GB / 512GB UFS 4.0 storage. The 256GB model which we have has 222.31GB free space. Out of 12GB LPDDR5X RAM, about 10.95GB is usable and 4.5GB is free when default apps are running in the background.

There is also a RAM Plus feature, which uses the internal memory of the phone to expand the RAM by an extra 12GB, in addition to the existing 12GB of RAM. This is enabled automatically, but can be disabled.

Apart from the usual set of utility apps and Google Apps, the smartphone comes with Facebook, Netflix, Spotify and Microsoft apps – Microsoft 365 Copilot, OneDrive, LinkedIn and Outlook. You get the option to install apps when you are setting up the phone, which you can choose not to. The phone doesn’t have ads, but shows notifications of new Samsung products occasionally.

Fingerprint sensor and Face unlock

The phone has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner which is quick to unlock the phone. You can add up to 4 fingerprints. It has support for Face recognition, which doesn’t work well if the lighting is poor in the room, if you use hats or sunglasses. Both these are protected by Knox security.

Music Player and Multimedia

YouTube Music is the default music player. It has equalizer, Dolby Atmos, UHQ upscaler, and Adapt that can be enabled from the settings. All these improve the audio when listening through earphones, and Dolby Atmos also works with speakers. It doesn’t have FM Radio support. That said, audio through earphones is good. Loudspeaker output from the stereo speakers is good.

The phone comes with Widevine L1 support out-of-the-box so that you can enjoy HD content on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and other streaming apps. There is also HDR playback support for Netflix and YouTube.

Dual SIM and Connectivity

The Galaxy Z Flip7 has a single SIM slot and the secondary SIM is an eSIM. there is support for 5G SA and NSA, with support for several 5G Network Bands in India. Airtel and Jio 5G works out of the box. There is also 4G Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) and support for LTE-A or Carrier Aggregation as well as VoNR. It was mostly in 4G or 4G + on Airtel, but I got 5G when I used Jio. The Samsung dialer, similar to other Samsung phones, supports auto call recording.

Other connectivity options include, Wi-Fi 7 802.11 be, Wi-Fi-Calling or Vo-Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.4 and GPS with GLONASS. It has support for USB OTG and NFC that works with supported payment apps.  This lacks UWB, which are present in S25+ and S25 Ultra models, but some reports say that this feature is available in the South Korean model. The Z Flip7 is the first flip phone from Samsung to support Samsung Dex. You need a Miracast enabled device for it to use it wirelessly, but you can use HDMI-to-USB-C cable if you need wired Dex.

The Galaxy Z flip7’s head SAR is at 1.372/Kg which well under the limit in India which is 1.6 W/kg (over 1 g).

Performance and Benchmarks

The new Exynos 2500 Deca-Core processor powers the Z Flip7 globally. It uses 4nm LPP+ process technology node and has tri-cluster CPU structure that consists of one Arm Cortex-X5 large core optimized for peak performance at 3.3 GHz, that includes 2 x Cortex-A725 cores at 2.74 GHz and 3 x Cortex-A725 cores at 2.36 GHz for balanced processing, and four Cortex-A520 cores at 1.8 GHz for efficiency. The company promises 15% increase in CPU performance compared to Exynos 2400.

It has the new Samsung Xclipse 950 GPU with the powerful AMD RDNA 3 architecture and hardware ray tracing technology that simulates real-world light movement for immersive visuals. It has been upgraded from 6WGP/4RB to 8WGP/8RB. In addition, the ray traversal performance of the GPU has Improved, and the GPU now supports instance transform hardware acceleration, boosting frames per second (FPS) by 28% with ray tracing enabled.

We did not face any issues or frame drops in the graphic-intensive games like COD, BGMI and Genshin Impact. There is VC cooling, but the exact size has not been revealed. Still there is throttling which is common in compact phones.

In 3D Mark wild life stress test, it scored 34.2%, which is less than other flagships, including the Galaxy S25. Temperature shot up from 32 to 44 degrees. That said, check out some synthetic benchmark scores below.

As you can see, the scores are better than last year’s Exynos 2400, but it is less in AnTuTu and Geekbench 6 Single-Core scores compared to Snapdragon 8 Elite and Dimensity 9400-powered phones.

Battery life

Coming to the battery life, the phone packs a 4300mAh (typical) built-in battery, the biggest on a Galaxy Flip phone yet, and 300mAh bigger than the one in the Z Flip6. It lasts for a whole day with 5G and heavy multimedia use. I got about 6 hours of screen on time with over a day’s with mostly on Wi-Fi, and occasional 5G use in 120Hz, which is better than the Z Flip6, thanks to the optimization.

It still has the 25W while the competitors offer faster charging in flip phones. It takes one and half hours to charge the phone fully using a 25W charger, and 0 to 50% takes about 30 minutes. Wish it had faster charging and a bigger battery. It has 15W wireless charging and reverse wireless charging.

Conclusion

Ovearll, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 is a compelling evolution of Samsung’s clamshell foldable. It addresses several key pain points of previous generations, making it the most mature and user-friendly Flip to date. The most substantial upgrade is undoubtedly the larger 4.1-inch, 120Hz cover display, which, combined with a sleeker design, transforms the user experience when the device is closed.

Internally, the new Exynos 2500 SoC delivers a welcome performance boost, and the slightly larger 4300mAh battery provides tangible improvements in endurance, now comfortably lasting a full day for most users. The inclusion of Samsung DeX for the first time in a Flip phone and the 50MP main camera further solidify its flagship credentials.

However, the Z Flip7 is not without its compromises. Samsung’s decision to stick with 25W charging feels dated. For users coming from a Galaxy Z Flip5 or older, the upgrade is substantial and highly recommended. Even for Z Flip6 owners, the enhanced outer screen, better battery life, and refined design present a tempting proposition. While the slow charging remains a notable drawback, the overall package of refinement, performance, and new features makes the Galaxy Z Flip7 a clear winner and arguably the best clamshell foldable on the market.
